a full- blown military operation to "eliminate" the Taliban
from Swat Valley in Northwest Pakistan.
The army has launched jets, helicopters and artillery to pound Taliban positions in the mountains and valleys around Mingora, Swat's main town.
As the army moved in, civilians moved out. In a single day tens of thousands left Mingora, leaving the leafy riverside city a desert of abandoned homes and mined streets
"Everybody wants to get out of this hell," said one man, driving his children and cattle before him. More than 1,000,000 people have fled the fighting.

Grandvalira ski resort in Andorra is the largest ski area in the Pyrenees, consisting of over 1,900 hectares of skiable terrain across multiple resorts. Safety is the top priority at Grandvalira, where a team of 75 patrols works daily to ensure safety. Efforts include installing signs, controlling avalanches after snowfalls, and promptly opening and closing slopes each day. The evolution of ski resorts occurred in four generations from the early 20th century. The first generation included early resort towns like Zermatt and St. Moritz that developed in the 1900s restricted to major towns. The second generation started in the 1930s when ski lifts were introduced and North American resorts like Sun Valley opened. Mass tourism boomed in the 1950s forming the third generation of purpose-built integrated resorts like La Plagne and Avoriaz. The fourth generation since the 1980s focused on experiential resorts and industry consolidation amidst a maturing ski market.
The document discusses the global development of ski resorts. It notes that there are approximately 2,093 ski resorts worldwide, with the majority located in 7 major markets including Austria, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, and the United States. These countries receive most skier visits. The Alps region captures 45% of global skier visits, while North America accounts for 23% of visits. Ski resorts can generally be divided into national, regional, and international destinations based on their market range.

This comic strip summarizes the events surrounding William the Conqueror's invasion of England in 1066 and his defeat of King Harold. It tells of how William, the Duke of Normandy, claimed the English throne after the death of King Edward the Confessor, despite Harold taking control of the kingdom. William built a large fleet and launched an invasion from Normandy. After defeating the Norwegian King's attack in the north, an exhausted Harold's army was defeated by William at the Battle of Hastings through a strategic ambush using hidden archers in the woods. Harold was killed and William became King of England, thereafter being known as William the Conqueror.
