This document summarizes 2015 United States suicide and homicide statistics from the CDC and FBI. It finds that in 2015 there were 44,193 total suicides, with 22,018 (49.82%) by firearm. There were 17,793 total murders, with 12,979 (72.94%) by firearm. Firearm deaths, both intentional and accidental, impacted males at much higher rates than females. Specific demographic breakdowns are provided for race, age, and method of suicide and homicide.

Law enforcement reported 770 justifiable homicides in 2015. Of those, law enforcement
officers justifiably killed 442 felons, and private citizens justifiably killed 328 people
during the commission of crimes.
