1. Product Description
The P-200 hoist is used together with track hoist technology to lift an individual from
above. It is attached to the trolley set that runs in the hoist track which is securely
mounted to either the ceiling structure, or wall. This portable track hoist is designed
to be easily moved from one track location to another, to hoist an individual from one
location such as a bed, along the track and finally into a chair or bath, for example. It is
moved along the track manually with the aid of a caregiver.
Important information
• The hoist must be assembled according to the assembly instructions.
• Lifting accessories must be properly fitted and tested to each user’s needs and
functional ability. A risk assessment must be done for each lift.
• The safe working load (SWL) must not be exceeded. (See Technical Information.)
• Never expose the P-200 hoist directly to water.
• The hoist must be regularly inspected to ensure optimal function. (See section on
Other Maintenance Details.)
• Do not use the hoist in the presence of flammable anaesthetics as it could
combust.
• Warranty does not cover any misuse or abuse of the hoist system. It applies only if
repairs or alterations made to the hoist are done by authorised, trained personnel.
• Any accessories used with the P-200 hoist, including track and slings, should be
checked to ensure that they are in good working order. Check for signs of wear or
fraying prior to use. Report any unusual wear or damage immediately to your local
authorised dealer and remove from service until they have been inspected.

3. Operations for Intended Use
• The intended use of the hoist is to assist the transfer of an individual from one
place to another, although this would be subject to an individual risk assessment.
This hoist is suitable for patients in the sitting and recumbent positions.
• Each hoist is fully assembled, load tested and certified before being packed and
shipped. The packaging consists of a strong, purpose-built carton and is used in
both export and domestic markets to ensure the safe arrival of the hoist.
• The test certificate and user manual which are packed with each hoist should be
kept safely for future reference.
• To ensure the absolute safety of your hoist, please refer to the Maintenance
Schedule included in this instruction manual. If you are unsure of what your
country’s servicing and maintenance requirements are, please check with your
dealer and/or a local government agency.
• The slings suitable for this device have loop fixings.
• Ensure that a clear space is maintained around the hoist and track. Remove all
curtain material and other obstacles out of the way before performing a transfer.
4. Safety Precautions
Ensure that you read and follow the safety precautions listed below. The operation
and use of this hoist is simple and straightforward. Following these few basic safety
precautions will make lifting operations easy, safe and trouble free.

• Plan your lifting operations before commencing.
• Carry out the daily check list before using the hoist.
• Familiarise yourself with the operating control and safety features of the hoist before
lifting a patient.
• Check the sling is suitable for the particular patient and is of the correct size,
capacity and specification.
• Never use a sling that is frayed or otherwise damaged.
• Fit the sling according to the instructions provided.
• Check whether the safe working load (SWL) of the hoist is suitable for the weight of
the patient.
• Carry out lifting operations according to the instructions in the user manual.
• Never disconnect or bypass a control or safety feature because it seems easier to
operate the hoist by doing so.
• Never force an operation/safety control. All controls are easy to use and do not
require excessive force.
• Do not lift a patient unless you are trained and competent to do so.
• This hoist is for lifting a patient. Do not use it, or allow it to be used, for any
other purpose.
5. Operating Instructions
Hand Control Hook
The hand control hook should be secured on the back of the hand control using
the self-tapping screws provided. Use the hook to hang the hand control on a
carry-bar handle.
How to Mount the Hoist to the Track
• There are four ways to mount the hoist to the track. Refer to the diagrams below
to determine the type of ceiling connection that has been installed with the
purchased system.

CAUTION: Always check to ensure that the hoist hook is properly attached to the
eyelet of the trolley, or the reacher, or the lanyard. The safety latch of the hoist hook
must always be in the locked position.

How to Use the Hoist
1. Carry the P-200 hoist to the transfer location and set it on a stable object such as
a table or chair. Allow sufficient strap out of the hoist so that the hoist hook can be
easily attached to the eyelet of the trolley without having to lift the hoist. Attach the
hoist hook to the eyelet of the trolley.
2. Lower the hoist to a comfortable level so that it can easily be moved. Move it close
to the person who is to be transferred.
3. Turn the hoist on using the red switch on the back of it. Press the up/down buttons
on the front of the hoist, or on the hand control. The on/off indicator light on the
front of the hoist will turn green, indicating that the hoist is on. (To conserve battery
power, the hoist will automatically shut off after approximately two minutes of
non-use.)
CAUTION: Always check the hoist, track and sling(s) for any unusual wear and
tear. Refer to the user manual for each piece of supplied equipment to determine
what should be checked. Should anything look unusual, contact your local dealer
prior to use. Failure to comply with this caution could result in serious injury to the
operator, the person being hoisted and/or damage to the hoist.
4. Press the ‘down’ or ‘up’ arrow buttons on the handset or the hoist, to lower or
raise it to the correct height - to attach the sling or position an individual. Steady
the hoist with one hand when it is close to the person in the sling so that it will not
accidentally sway and bump them or a close object.
CAUTION: Take care to ensure that neither the hoist nor the person being hoisted
in the sling come into contact with any objects such as beds, doorways, walls, etc.
Watch out for and avoid any obstructions that may cause an injury to the individual
or damage to the hoist.
5. Prepare the person being transferred with the appropriate sling – refer to the
instructions supplied with the sling on how to properly fit it.
CAUTION: Always make sure that the sling is correctly fitted and adjusted on
each side of the person so that maximum comfort and safety are achieved prior
to hoisting.
6. Once the person has been fitted with the sling, move the hoist so that it is
positioned directly over them. The hoist may need to be raised or lowered, or
repositioned along the track, in order to accomplish this. Lower the hoist so the
carry bar hooks are at a suitable height, in order to connect the straps of the
sling. Steady the hoist with one hand so that it does not come in contact with the
individual.
CAUTION: Always check to ensure that the hoist is correctly positioned directly
above the person to be hoisted. Over time, the hoist strap may fray if this is not
done. Also check to ensure that when the hoist is lowered, it does not come in
contact with the person being hoisted.
7. Following the instructions provided with the sling, attach the straps of the sling
to the carry-bar handles of the hoist. The straps on each side of the sling are
generally attached to the corresponding side of the carry-bar hooks. Ensure that
the straps are properly attached to the carry-bar hooks, and that the individual
being hoisted is properly positioned in the sling prior to hoisting.
CAUTION: Before hoisting an individual, make sure that the straps of the sling are
securely placed on the carry bar and that the straps will not come off.
8. The person may now be raised with the use of the ‘up’ button on the hand control
or front-panel button on the hoist. While hoisting is in progress, the height required
in order for the transfer to be completed should be closely observed. Ensure that
the person being hoisted will not be injured by any obstructions during the initial
manoeuvre.
9. Once at the correct height, the individual can be moved along the track to the
desired location.
CAUTION: Always be cautious when moving a person along the track. Watch out
for and avoid any obstructions that may cause damage to the hoist or injure the
individual in the sling.
10. Once at the desired location, the person in the sling can be lowered or raised to
the correct height in order to complete the transfer. On completion of the lowering/
raising ensure that the person is properly positioned and safely supported before
the sling straps are removed.
CAUTION: Always be cautious when lowering/raising an individual who is in the
sling of the hoist. Watch out for and avoid any obstructions that may cause injury
to the individual.

11. Lower the hoist sufficiently to allow the sling straps to be easily removed, taking
care not to let it come in contact with the person in the sling.
CAUTION: Before removing the sling straps from the carry-bar hooks, check that
the person is securely and safely supported in the final desired position.
12. The straps of the sling can now be removed from the carry-bar hooks. The sling
can then be removed from the person and stored in a safe place.
13. The hoist should now be raised sufficiently and moved away from the immediate
area of the person who was transferred.
14. The hoist can now be removed from the track, relocated to another track, or stored
in a safe place until next used. It is recommended that the hoist be charged when
not in operation. The hooks can be turned upwards when the hoist is transported
or stored – see diagrams below.
NOTE: If the hoist won’t be used for over 24 hours and is not being charged, the red
switch must be in the ‘off’ position.
CAUTION: Always use utmost care when removing the hoist from the track. Lower the
hoist so that it rests securely on a stable object such as a bed, trolley or table prior to
removal. Use extreme care when relocating the hoist. Be sure it is securely held during
transport.
Low Battery Alarm
If the battery power is low and requires charging, the light on the hoist control will turn
orange and a slow beeping audible alarm will sound. (Refer to figure 2 on page 4 for
the diagram of the hoist.) Complete the transfer that is in progress and then remove
the hoist from the track and charge the unit (see Charging Instructions). If the batteries
aren’t recharged after the low battery alert, the light will turn red and a fast beeping
audible alarm will sound, indicating the batteries are almost fully discharged and require
charging.
CAUTION: Do not allow the batteries to become further discharged after the low battery
alert, as this will decrease the overall battery life and performance.
Emergency Lowering
The ‘down’ blue button located on the hoist (refer to figure 2 on page 4) can be used to
lower a person should the hand control buttons fail. Should the ‘down’ arrow buttons
on both the hand control and the hoist fail, the person may be lowered by pressing the
red emergency lowering button located on the front of the hoist. There will be a delay of
approximately two seconds before the hoist starts to lower. An audible alarm will also
sound during the emergency lowering.
IMPORTANT: The emergency lowering system does not provide a raising function.
The failure of any of the lowering devices should be reported to your authorised dealer
immediately.
Emergency Stopping and Shut-off
The hoist shuts off if it has not been in use for two minutes. Should the hoist not respond
to the hand control buttons or any of the control buttons on the front of the hoist, the
red emergency stop switch should be switched to the ‘off’ position. This will cut power
to the hoist motor and immediately stop all movement. Should the emergency stop
function be used, the hoist must be inspected by an authorised dealer before it can be
used again. Once the hoist has been inspected and/or repaired, then the emergency
stop button can be set to the ‘on’ position. Normal use of the hoist may then proceed.
NOTE: The hoist will only charge if the emergency stop switch is in the ‘on’ position.

How to Attach the Handset Airline Tube
• Should the grey rubber airline that connects the hoist to the hand control become
disengaged from the front left side of the hoist, it must be reconnected in order for
the hoist to work properly. (Refer to figure 2 on page 4 for the diagram of the hoist.)
The rubber airline may become disconnected for the following reasons:
1) The hoist is pulled along the track by the airline.
2) The tubing is accidentally wrapped around an object while a hoist or transfer is
being performed.
3) It is accidentally pulled out by the caregiver or the individual being hoisted.
• The airline is connected to a grey rubber grommet located on the front left side of
the hoist. Small metal ribbed pins located at the end of the airline connect it to this
rubber grommet in a specific manner. Therefore, it is important to make sure that
the airline is connected properly.
• Both the grey airline connector and the rubber grommet have a ridge on one of their
sides. Align the ridges for proper connection. When this is done, the metal ribbed
pins attached to the end of the airline can be reinserted into the corresponding
holes in the rubber grommet.
• Be sure to insert the pins into the grey rubber grommet sufficiently so that it is
secure. Perform a brief test of the hoist to ensure proper connectivity. Turn the hoist
on and off. Raise and lower the hoist.
• If the hoist does not work properly, check to ensure that the ridges on the
grey rubber grommet on the underside of the hoist and the airline tubing are lined
up properly. If they are not lined up properly, remove the airline, line up the ridges
and then reinsert it into the rubber grommet. Perform the test as noted in the
preceding paragraph. If there are still problems with the hoist, contact your local
authorised dealer.
6. Charging Instructions
The batteries of the hoist should be charged regularly. It is recommended that the
hoist be left on charge when not in operation, and at the end of each day. This will
maximise the life cycle of the batteries. The hoist may remain connected to the charger
indefinitely since the charger has a built-in regulator, eliminating the danger
of overcharging.
1. Familiarise yourself with the basic components of the charging system. Place the
hoist and charger on a clean, dry surface such as a table or counter top.
2. When the battery is almost discharged, the ‘up’ function will be disabled. The
‘down’ and ‘emergency down’ functions will continue to operate. During charging,
just the ‘emergency down’ function will continue to operate. Plug the charger wall
plug into a nearby wall outlet. The indicator light on the charger will turn green.
NOTE: The hoist will only charge if the emergency stop switch is in the ‘on’ position.
3. The charger output plug has three prongs inside its metal case. These are
designed to fit into the charger point on the hoist. Connect the plug to the hoist
charge point, being careful to ensure that the metal prongs from the charger plug
fit into the holes of the hoist charge point.
4. When the hoist is connected to the charger and turned on, the indicator light on
the hoist will flash orange. Once the hoist automatically shuts down, the indicator
light will change to solid orange to show that the hoist is being charged. After a
minimum of one hour, the charger may be disconnected from the hoist, and the
hoist put into use. However, overnight charging is recommended.
CAUTION: Do not operate the hoist while it is connected to the charger.
Summary of LED Light Modes:
1. Unlit: Hoist is switched off or in sleep mode.
2. Green: Hoist is switched on and ready to use.
3. Orange: Hoist requires charging (accompanied by a slow beep).
4. Red: Battery power is very low; charge immediately.
5. Orange, flashing: Hoist is being charged

7. Maintenance Schedule
The hoist is designed for minimum maintenance, however, some safety checks
and procedures are required. A schedule of daily tasks is detailed below. A list of
replacement parts is available upon request.
Daily Check List
It is recommended that the following checks be carried out daily and before using
the hoist.
• Examine slings and sling straps for fraying or other damage. Do not use a sling if it
is damaged.
• Operate the handset to confirm the hoist raises and lowers satisfactorily.
• Confirm the hoist does not give a low-battery alarm when the handset is operated.
If the alarm sounds, do not use it. Charge it immediately.
• Check the operation of the emergency stop switch.
• The airline tube that connects the hand control to the hoist should not be kinked,
twisted, knotted, cut or damaged.
• The brackets that hold the track in place on the ceiling should be secure and not
move or appear loose.
• The hoist should not make unusual sounds when it is moved up or down, or along
the track.
• Ensure that end stops are installed at each end of the track.
• There must not be cuts, dents or sharp edges on the carry-bar hooks that may
damage the straps of the sling.
• The carabiner hook should be checked before and after each lift for damage.
Monthly Check
With no one in the sling, check that the hoist moves freely along the entire length of the
track. Should any of the items fail the inspection, do not use the hoist. Contact your
local authorised dealer.
8. Other Maintenance Details
• Old batteries: These should be disposed of via the nearest recycling station or
given to personnel authorised by your dealer.
• Cleaning/disinfection: The exterior of the hoist should only be disinfected and
sterilised using isopropyl alcohol. Dampen a cloth with isopropyl alcohol and wipe
down the entire exterior of the hoist including the strap and hooks.
CAUTION: Take great care to ensure that no liquids get inside the hoist. This hoist
is not drip proof or watertight. Failure to protect the hoist from liquids may result in
damage to the hoist and/or may cause personal injury.
• Storage: The hoist should be stored at temperatures above freezing and at normal
relative humidity (approx. 60%).
• Service agreements: Your dealer will offer the possibility of a service agreement
for the maintenance and regular testing of your hoist. Contact your local dealer for
further details.
Maintenance Inspection and Test
The hoist and its accessories must undergo a thorough inspection at least once per
year. This must be done by an authorised service engineer and in accordance with the
service manual. Repairs and maintenance may only be done by authorised personnel
using original spare parts.
Inspection frequency varies from country to country, so you must check with your
local government agency how often an inspection is required. These checks are to be
completed by a hoist technician.
The LOLER Regulations (Lifting Operation& Lifting Equipment Regulations) dictate that
the hoist must be inspected every six months when being used by an employee. This
includes a carer employed either privately or from the local authority.

9. Troubleshooting
Should problems arise with the use of the P-200 hoist, review the following chart. Find
the fault and complete the recommended solution. If the fault is not found and/or the
solution does not correct the problem, contact your local authorised dealer for service
immediately.
Fault Recommended Solution
The airline tubing that connects the hand
control to the hoist has become disengaged.
Refer to the section of this manual titled
‘Attaching the airline tube to the hoist’. If this
does not correct the problem then contact
your local authorised dealer so that the hoist
can be checked to ensure proper continued
operation.
The hand control buttons do not operate
according to their designations (eg. the ‘up’
button initiates a down movement).
The airline tubing has been connected
incorrectly. Refer to the section of this manual
titled ‘How to Attach the Handset Airline
Tube’.
The hoist does not operate up or down, even
when the airline has been properly connected.
The indicator light on the front right side of
the hoist should be green. Press the on/off
button or up/down arrow buttons on the hand
control. This should activate the hoist and the
indicator light will turn green.
If the hoist still does not function, then the
batteries may be low and require charging.
Refer to the section of this manual titled
‘Charging Instructions’. Charge the hoist for at
least one hour and then try to raise and lower it.
The green light on the left front side of the
hoist is on but the hoist does not operate
downwards.
There is a built-in slack tape detector in the
hoist. Take hold of the hoist strap about 10cm
above the top of the hoist and pull it upwards
in order to tighten the hoist strap, and then
press the ‘down’ button. If this corrects the
problem temporarily but not permanently,
contact your local authorised dealer so that
the hoist can be checked to ensure continued
operation.
The red indicator light on the left front side of
the hoist turns red and/or a loud alarm sound
is heard when an individual is raised.
The battery power is low. Refer to the section
of this manual titled ‘Charging Instructions’.
Charge the hoist for at least one hour and
then try to raise and lower it.
One side of the hoist tape (strap) is starting to
fray after continued use.
Contact your local authorised dealer
immediately so that the hoist can be checked
to ensure continued operation.
The hoist does not pass through a track
component such as a turntable or gate.
Refer to the manual for the equipment in
question.
10. Warranty
• NHG guarantees this equipment to be free from defects in material and
workmanship for up to 24 months from the date of delivery. This guarantee covers
the lift’s major structure, actuator, control box, handset and battery.
• At the manufacturer’s discretion, we agree to service, repair or replace any
equipment or part found to be defective, at no charge.
• All warranty work will be performed at the NHG head office: Unit 1, Wilberforce
Way, Horsham, West Sussex, RH13 9RT. Shipping charges will be prepaid.
• This warranty excludes equipment that has been damaged during shipping,
or through tampering, improper maintenance, carelessness, an accident,
negligence or misuse, as well as equipment that has been altered, repaired or
dismantled other than with the manufacturer’s written authorisation, by properly
qualified technicians following approved procedures.
• In no event shall NHG be liable for any direct, indirect or consequential damage or
loss resulting from the use of this equipment.
• The warranty is non-transferable.
