This document describes research into producing natural fiber composites with poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and modified thermoplastic starch (MTPS) or thermoplastic starch (TPS). The research investigated reactive blending of PLA with MTPS or TPS using maleic anhydride (MA) to modify the starches. Composites were produced by extrusion and compression molding with varying fiber contents. Tests on the composites showed that adding MTPS to PLA improved tensile strength over adding TPS. Composites with 25% MTPS had the highest tensile strength of around 23.4 MPa. FTIR analysis indicated ester bonds formed between PLA and MA-modified

State of APIs: API trends from Nordic APIs Copenhagen & SundsvallAndreas Krohn
An overview of where we are coming from, where we are and where we are going in the API world. Presentation from Nordic APIs in Copenhagen and Sundsvall in May 2013.
The document discusses the evolution of English language teaching materials from the 1950s to the present, and how wider social forces have influenced their design. In the 1950s-60s, materials reflected the Cold War context and emphasized drills. In the late 1960s-70s, they incorporated humanistic approaches in response to social movements. From the 1970s-80s, materials focused on individuals' needs and communicative language teaching. However, since the 1980s, commercial publishing has become standardized and scripted under neoliberalism and McDonaldization, constraining innovation. The author argues this uniformity should be resisted by giving teachers and learners more autonomy over curriculum decisions and encouraging experimentation.
Materials development is an important part of teacher education programs and language learning. Traditionally, teacher education focused on transmitting theoretical knowledge with little practical experience, leaving a gap between what teachers knew and what they could do. Currently, programs take a competency-based approach that balances theoretical and practical knowledge. Participating in materials development can increase teachers' awareness, creativity, and self-reflection by providing concrete experiences to link theory and practice. It is also important for researchers, applied linguists, and practicing teachers as a way to stimulate innovation and professional development. Materials development should be a compulsory part of language teacher preparation.

This document presents the results of a study measuring the portfolio performance of construction sector funds in the Singapore stock market. Key findings include:
1) When constructing an overall portfolio of 14 construction stocks, the expected returns were negative in 2012 and 2015. Performance metrics like Sharpe ratio, Treynor ratio, and Jensen's alpha were calculated for each stock.
2) A portfolio of 8 large-cap stocks was also constructed, with negative expected returns again in 2012 and 2015. Paired t-tests found no significant difference between this portfolio's returns and the market.
3) Similarly, a small-cap portfolio of 8 stocks had negative returns only in 2015. Its performance was also not significantly different from the

Abstract: Cloud native applications are popular these days – applications that run in the cloud reliably und scale almost arbitrarily. They follow three key principles: they are built and composed as micro services. They are packaged and distributed in containers. The containers are executed dynamically in the cloud. Kubernetes is an open-source cluster manager for the automated deployment, scaling and management of cloud native applications. In this hands-on session we will introduce the core concepts of Kubernetes and then show how to build, package and operate a cloud native showcase application on top of Kubernetes step-by-step. Throughout this session we will be using an off-the-shelf MIDI controller to demonstrate and visualize the concepts and to remote control Kubernetes.
This document provides an overview of hernias, including definition, types, anatomy, clinical features, and management. It focuses on inguinal and femoral hernias. The main points are: 1) A hernia is a protrusion of an organ or tissue through an abnormal opening. Common types are inguinal, femoral, and incisional hernias. 2) The inguinal canal anatomy and contents are described. Inguinal hernias can be direct, indirect or combined. 3) Femoral hernias occur in the femoral canal and have a higher risk of strangulation than inguinal hernias. All hernias are generally repaired surgically to prevent complications.

Air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and gases in the air. Car emissions, chemicals from factories, dust, pollen and mold spores may be suspended as particles. Ozone, a gas, is a major part of air pollution in cities. When ozone forms air pollution, it's also called smog.
