This document discusses an old Greek tradition where children are given bracelets on the first day of Spring to prevent sunburn. The bracelets are typically made from red and white wool by mothers or teachers. According to an old saying, the sun in March is so strong that it can tan skin for 5 months. The tradition also holds that children should wear the bracelets until the end of March and then leave them on flower pots so that swallows can use them in nest building. The school wishes to welcome Spring 2013 by sharing this cultural tradition.

2. MARCH BRACELETS
• This is a very ,very old custom dating
back from Ancient Greece and the rituals
in Eleusis.

3. TODAY
• Nowadays mothers or teachers are still
making a bracelet the first day of Spring
especially for the children. The tradition
says that this bracelet prevents children
from getting a sunburnt .

4. Old saying
• As the old saying goes
• <Τον Μάπτη ο ήλιορ βάφει και πέντε μήνερ
δεν ξεβάφει>
< in March the sun is so hot that you get a
tan that you can not get rid of it but 5
months later>

5. OUR CRAFTS
• You only need some red and white wool ,a
little enthusiasm and your bracelet is
ready!

6. March swallows
• It is thought that we have to wear our
bracelet till the end of March ,then we take
it off and we leave it on a rose flower pot
so as the swallows can find our bracelet
and take it to build their nests.
