Protests in Barcelona's Plaza Catalunya against political corruption have been ongoing since May 15th and known as the "Spanish Revolution" or "15-M". Last Friday, riot police used violence in an attempt to clear the square of protesters, resulting in over 120 injuries. After tensions rose for nearly seven hours, demonstrators regathered in larger numbers to continue their peaceful occupation of the square, receiving widespread condemnation of the police actions. The protesters are calling for honest politicians, solutions to unemployment, housing rights, and greater democratic participation among other reforms.
