South Africa has a population of over 49 million people who speak 11 official languages including Afrikaans and English. Famous South African Nelson Mandela was the first democratically elected president after spending 27 years in prison opposing apartheid and winning the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize. The largest city is Johannesburg but the capital cities are Cape Town, Pretoria, and Bloemfontein.
