Sony was founded in 1946 as a electronics store in Japan called Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita. It was later renamed to Sony to mean "sound" in Latin. Sony created many innovative consumer electronic products such as the portable radio, Walkman, floppy disk, Blu-ray, and was involved early in the video game industry through partnerships with Nintendo to develop the PlayStation game console.
