Social development theory proposed by Lev Vygotsky emphasizes that social interaction precedes development and that cognitive development occurs through collaborative dialogues within social environments. A key aspect of Vygotsky's theory is the zone of proximal development, which refers to the difference between what a learner can do independently and what they can accomplish with guidance and encouragement from a more skilled partner. According to Vygotsky, meaningful learning occurs in this zone and with assistance from others through language and collaboration.
