Certain surfaces like cars, gravel, and tarmac reflect sound while others like mud, brick buildings, and people absorb sound. An outdoor space with many objects and wind had better sound quality than indoor recordings, possibly because indoor surfaces absorb and reflect sound in a way that degraded the quality of recordings made inside.

This is a large, open exterior space with lots of objects in the way with a loud and windy atmosphere, so the sound should get lost and the quality should be worse than the interior sound, although we found the quality of sound was better outside, as it sounded louder and clearer than those we did indoors. This could be because there were more things indoors that not only absorb the sound but reflect making the quality of the recordings poor.
