This document summarizes a tour of Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, home of the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team. The 1.1 million square foot stadium contains fan experience offices, electric rooms, finance offices, and a stats room. Hot spots highlighted on the tour included the Ted Williams Museum and Hall of Fame and a sting ray tank. Areas for improvement mentioned were better food, parking, marketing to increase the fan base. The tour provided insight into fan experience operations and behind-the-scenes aspects of running a professional sports team.

Concurrently processing thousands of web queries, each with a response time under a fraction of a second, necessitates maintaining and operating massive data centers. For large-scale web search engines, this translates into high energy consumption and a huge electric bill. This work takes the challenge to reduce the electric bill of commercial web search engines operating on data centers that are geographically far apart. Based on the observation that energy prices and query workloads show high spatio-temporal variation, we propose a technique that dynamically shifts the query workload of a search engine between its data centers to reduce the electric bill. Experiments on real-life query workloads obtained from a commercial search engine show that significant financial savings can be achieved by this technique.

Tropicana Field Is home to the Tampa Bay Rays, located in St. Petersburg Florida. It is an enclosed facility with air-conditioning and is 1.1 million square feet.
On my tour, I was able to sit in on a Fan Experience meeting and view the entire office. One of my favorite rooms with the Electric Room, here is where all the music graphics pictures and much more goes on. As we went on, I saw where all of the finance offices were. Close by was the Stats Room where both teams book keepers sat and watched the game.
Some of the many great design points was that the Rays staff we kept very organized. They did a great job in marketing to families with young children by creating a place where they can take there children to play during the game. My absolute favorite design was the Rays in the community. The Rays do a lot of community service and dedicated a whole wall to show off what they have done for the community.
A great design feature they have is their tank of sting rays which you are allowed to pet. Also, they have the Ted Williams Museum & Hall of Fame Hitters. Here you cannot touch anything, but there is much to see, learn and read about.
From my tour I also realized what could use some improvement. The Rays are now tied for 1st place and are only selling 50% of all home game tickets. On ESPN and in the News Papers, the Rays were pointed out in selling food that was making people sick. Lastly, at the end of the game while we were leaving I noticed how hecktic and unorganized the parking lots traffic flow was.
Before the game, my family and I were able to meet the players, coaches and owners of the team.
Through the game my cousin, my little sister and myself took part in some of what they would call Fan Experience. My cousin Ray started the game off by saying “play ball” and took part in the bottle race which he won. While my sister and I took part in Find the Cow, which we did.
The best part of my experience would by having the opportunity and the priviledge of throwing the first pitch.
I learned so many great things on my tour of Tropicana Field. I found a few new possible job interests and a lot about Fan Experience. I learned just how much goes into creating a baseball game, and tracking every minutes play-by-play. Plus, most of the economic and finantail part of putting on a game. My list of what I learned could take up the whole class period.
On my tour I spotted this quote. I thought this would be a great way to end my presentation since to me a sent a powerful message.
