EFFECTS OF BAPTISM.

person centered on Christ’s baptism.

5. • "The baptized person is enlightened and he becomes a light himself" (Eph 5:8)
The passage emphasizes the enlightenment bestowed to the baptized person. In
Acts 2:37-38, the baptized receives the gift of the Holy Spirit and hence, he is
enlightened and becomes a light himself. He can expand this light not only in
himself but he is also a light for others. He is enlightenment to others as well.
Jesus Himself was baptized not because He needed baptism but because through
His baptism we may respond to the above passages, Acts 2:37-38; Romans 6:3-4;
Ephesians 5:8;. Christ's baptism at River Jordan signaled His public ministry and
after He resurrected He gave the mission to His Apostles. "Go therefore and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit" (Mt.28:19-20)
6. The Significance of Baptism The significance of the sacrament of baptisin can be
claimed from the Rite of Baptism when the priest asks the following questions:
Priest: (Name of the Candidate) What do you ask of God's Church?
Candidate: Faith.
Priest: What does faith offer you?
Candidate: Eternal life
Faith is the key ingredient in the sacrament of baptism without which we cannot
attain eternal life. What then is the connection between faith and salvation? Is
this faith, the kind of faith that we should keep as our own?
7. • The importance of faith as a power within us that progressively
changes our daily ideas, hopes, attitudes, and values is emphasized
in the Catechism for Filipino Catholics. Three fundamental elements
might characterize a greater life that is brought about by faith:
happiness, freedom, and genuine human growth. As impediments to
Christian life, sin, evil, and Satan should be rejected by the
applicant. Both adult and child baptisms are available. Instruction,
purification, illumination, and a proclamation of intention are
prerequisites for adult baptism. In communities where the majority
population identifies as Christians, infant baptism is practiced and
encouraged because it is essential to release a child from the grip of
evil and usher them into a state of freedom. The terror is the wisdom
of baby baptism.
9. Church Teachings on Faith and Parenting
• Church emphasizes God's universal salvific will and the need for faith-
preparation in children.
• Prayers for infants express comfort and hope.
• Neglecting child's happiness risks losing heaven and God's vision.
Roles of Parents and Godparents
• Parents proclaim their child's faith and raise them to greater God
experience.
• Godparents provide religious education and establish a spiritual and
moral relationship with their godchildren.
10. Baptism Symbols
Water:
• Used in everyday life for bathing, washing clothes, and watering plants.

11. The Church's View on Baptism
• Baptism is a prayer event requiring a personal response throughout the baptized's
faith-life.
• Baptism offers an initial grace and a new relationship with the Risen Christ in the Spirit.
• The effectivity of Baptism depends on the baptized's continued cooperation with
grace.
Life's Response to Baptism
• Response should be based on the significant areas or points of baptism.
• Just as Christ was buried, we must rise from our sinfulness and live a new life of
righteousness.
