The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive function. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.
The document discusses the AquaFit4Use project and highlights several young researchers who were involved. It describes their educational backgrounds and roles within the project, including testing treatment technologies at various scales from lab to pilot. The young researchers gained valuable experience applying their skills to industrial wastewater issues and working with experts to evaluate options for water recycling and reuse.
Stabilization is being used for a variety of engineering works, one of the most common application being in the construction of road and airfield pavements, where the main objective is to increase the strength or stability of soil and to reduce the construction cost by making best use of the locally available material. The relevance of stabilization is to increase the bearing capacity of soil, decrease permeability and compressibility of soil, to control shrinkage and swelling etc. In this method carbonated magnesia is used for soil stabilization.
BlingCrete is a textile-reinforced concrete with a light-reflecting surface whose specific properties and smart manufacturing processes offer a wide variety of applications. In addition to being light-reflecting, this material non-flammable. BlingCrete is based on system precast building methods.
Heat recovery ventilation is a means of energy conversation in buildings. Because of reducing ventilation exhaust air, can play a good role in the effectiveness of ventilation to reduce energy use. As building efficiency is improved with insulation and weather stripping, buildings are intentionally made more airtight, and consequently less ventilated. Since all buildings require a source of fresh air, the need for HRVs has become obvious.
Aerogel is a solid with the lowest known density, it stands upto 2000 times greater load than its own weight. It has low thermal conductivity; the material is very suitable to limit the heat losses of buildings. Its meltingtemperature is 1200°C. Well dampens vibrations and sound. Aerogel is the only compound with significant thermal insulation capabilities, which is corrently well clear. For these reasons, it is possible to consider aerogel as amaterial of the future not only in construction, and therefore it is necessary to deal with this interesting material now.

Bagasse ash as a partial replacement to cement. This replacement can improve the properties of cement as well as, it reduces the effects over the environment.
This document discusses ring shaped steel plate shear walls (RS-SPSWs) as an alternative to conventional steel plate shear walls (SPSWs). It presents the results of parametric studies and experimental testing that demonstrate the advantages of RS-SPSWs. The parametric studies found that RS-SPSWs mitigate buckling, provide higher strength, stiffness and energy dissipation compared to SPSWs. Experimental testing confirmed RS-SPSWs are capable of developing plastic hinging and exhibiting full hysteretic behavior with less pinching. The document concludes RS-SPSWs have improved seismic performance and design advantages over conventional SPSWs.
Reinforced arches have a wide range of applications. This paper discuss about use of fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) for strengthening of reinforced concrete arches. The experiment is conducted on shallow arches. Three arches are tested. One is used as a control arch while other two are strengthened using FRP strips in different patterns. Six non symmetric point loads are equally spaced along the arches. The arch is modelled as a polygon.
This document discusses the applications of concrete cloth in civil engineering. Concrete cloth is a flexible cement-impregnated fabric that hardens when hydrated to form a thin, durable concrete layer. It combines the flexibility of geo textile fabrics with the durability of hardened concrete. The document outlines the material properties and manufacturing process of concrete cloth. It then describes various applications of concrete cloth in civil engineering projects, such as for ditch lining, slope protection, pipeline protection, and as shelter material. The advantages of concrete cloth include rapid deployment, ease of use, flexibility, strength and waterproof properties.
shear walls are vertical elements of the horizontal force resisting system. Shear walls are constructed to counter the effects of lateral load acting on a structure.
