Common conventions in thrillers include mysteries with logical explanations rather than supernatural ones, conflicts between good and evil, the use of low-key lighting and music to build tension, violence that is less graphic than horror, and hidden identities of villains through camera shots and shadows. Psychological thrillers are a subgenre that also incorporate drama, horror, and mystery elements and are often set in modern, urban settings.
