Sight Words (or High Frequency Words) are words we see most often while reading. Many of these words cannot be sounded out and, therefore, it is beneficial to recognize them by sight in 3 seconds or less. This frees up the reader to concentrate on longer content words. Students who are able to recognize many words quickly have one piece of the reading puzzle mastered.
