Sabina Szwarc lived in Piotrkow Trybunalski, Poland where she was a teacher and her family ran a business. When the Nazis invaded Poland, the Szwarc family was forced to live in the Piotrkow ghetto along with other Jewish families. To avoid deportation, Sabina obtained fake ID cards claiming non-Jewish identities for herself and her family.
