A short history of drug use according to PetePeteLees
Pipes made from animal bones dating back to 2000BC provide early evidence that people sought ways to smoke or inhale substances. Various herbal texts from 1500AD onward described plant-based substances with narcotic or intoxicating effects. Attitudes continued to change over time, as poets and scientists in the 18th century experimented with various legal and illegal drugs, while temperance societies in the early 20th century pushed for restrictions on substances deemed dangerous or linked to social problems. International drug conventions in the 1960s further shaped global policies around controlled substances.
The Beethoven Frieze was a series of paintings by Gustav Klimt shown in 1902 depicting scenes from Beethoven's 9th Symphony. It occupied three walls and was about 34 meters long. The left wall showed a golden knight battling hostile forces to bring happiness. The central wall featured a monstrous figure of Typhoeus surrounded by depictions of sickness, madness, and vices. The right wall concluded with images of the arts, angels, and an embracing couple representing joy. The frieze used symbolic figures and compositions to interpret themes of humanity's desires, struggles, and the role of beauty in achieving happiness and paradise.

This document summarizes a distributed cloud-based genetic algorithm framework called TunUp for tuning the parameters of data clustering algorithms. TunUp integrates existing machine learning libraries and implements genetic algorithm techniques to tune parameters like K (number of clusters) and distance measures for K-means clustering. It evaluates internal clustering quality metrics on sample datasets and tunes parameters to optimize a chosen metric like AIC. The document outlines TunUp's features, describes how it implements genetic algorithms and parallelization, and concludes it is an open solution for clustering algorithm evaluation, validation and tuning.
The document discusses how leading teams has evolved from hierarchical leadership of small, elite teams to a network model of leadership connecting teams. It describes how the US Special Operations Forces recognized the need to shift from a top-down bureaucracy to leading as a networked organization to address 21st century threats. Key steps to adopt this network model included creating strategic alignment, driving inclusion and transparency, and leading with empathy to think and act as a connected network.
Comic books originated from newspaper comic strips in the US. They differ between countries, with the US focusing on superheroes, Japan producing manga, France known for Asterix, and Belgium known for Tintin. Throughout history, comic books have been used for propaganda during wars, to promote government initiatives, as educational tools in classrooms, and for entertainment across various ages and genres.

He made important contributions to physiology, semiotics, and the idea that organisms should be studied as active subjects rather than passive objects.

Digital innovation is easy to say, but hard to actually put into practice. We talk technology, content, VR,... but the hardest part of all this is getting it sold internally. What are the biggest walls digital transformers need to take down and how can they do it, how can they make digital innovation work?

1. Shades of Grey Kitchen Design
Shades of Grey Kitchen...
Sometimes meeting a designer for the first time is not always by chance, sometimes it is meant to
be. Such was the case when a Roslyn, Long Island, homeowner walked into our showroom with an
architectural plan and a vision for their dream kitchen and family room renovation. During their
consultation with kitchen designer, Mario J. Mulea, CR, the discussion focused on creating a mood
and a feeling for this new space that would reflect their personality and the family's future in their
new kitchen. They wanted a space filled with visual interest and individuality, and they wanted a
grey kitchen color.
2. Clearly not a "white" kitchen client, they were open to seeing new colors and finish techniques,
exploring new and existing products, and using them in unexpected ways. Extensive dialog between
the designer and the homeowner led them to a design where function and aesthetic merged
graciously. Mario made some minor architectural changes and meticulously planned the layout and
island orientation to ensure everyday convenience and maximum storage space. The resulting gray
and wood palette with accents of color was exactly what the clients envisioned their space could be.
3. The custom cabinetry is Brookhaven by Wood Mode in vintage slate on maple and matte brown with
a black glaze on cherry. Countertops are by Silestone in Lagoon and Shitake, and the backsplash is a
silver travertine tumbled marble. The open plan design scheme offers textural variety in a peaceful,
comfortable living space that mixes classic elements with a modern twist.
