Here is a summary of the key differences in moral reasoning between Anglicans and Catholics on issues of human sexuality based on the Church of England report:
- Anglicans take a more contextual approach, emphasizing love, commitment and responsibility in relationships. Catholics focus more on the nature of specific acts.
- On homosexuality, Anglicans accept same-sex relationships under certain circumstances while Catholics view homosexual acts as intrinsically disordered.
- On contraception, Anglicans accept its use in some cases based on reason and conscience while Catholics prohibit artificial contraception as contrary to natural law.
- Anglicans allow for development in understanding based on experience while Catholics give more weight to traditional theological and philosophical arguments grounded in natural
This document discusses sexual ethics from both theoretical and practical perspectives. It examines questions about which acts are considered sexual, which acts are morally acceptable or unacceptable, and whether prevailing sexual norms and legislation are justified. It explores different traditions in sexual ethics, such as religious, romantic-conservative, Kantian, and liberal approaches. Liberal sexual ethics prioritizes individual autonomy and consent. However, it is also criticized for potentially accepting all acts and for issues with power dynamics. Overall, the document advocates for a nuanced approach to sexual ethics that respects individual rights while acknowledging social contexts and potential harms.
This is all about the seventh commandment to not commit adultery. These studies get into marriage, sex and family, for there are far reaching effects of being unfaithful.
This document outlines a research study that aims to investigate whether using audiovisual learning software can improve the listening skills of eighth grade students at SMP Frater Parepare school. The researcher found that the students' average listening score of 55 was considered poor based on government standards. The study will involve giving a pre-test of listening skills, teaching the experimental class using audiovisual software while not using it in the control class, and then giving a post-test to both groups to measure the impact of the software. The population is 62 eighth grade students split between two classes, with one as the experimental group and one as the control. The dependent variable is listening skills and independent variable is use of the audiovisual software.

The SR-71 Blackbird was the world's fastest air-breathing aircraft, capable of cruising at Mach 3.2 at 85,000 feet with a top speed of over 2,200 mph. Built from 1964 to 1999, it was designed to fly reconnaissance missions at extreme speeds and altitudes that could not be matched by Soviet defenses. Its unique design, which included a titanium alloy structure and special anti-heat paint, allowed it to withstand the high temperatures encountered during supersonic flight. With its incredible speed and stealthy design, the Blackbird conducted numerous missions over hostile territory without ever being shot down.

The document discusses Catholic teachings on the sixth commandment regarding chastity and sexual morality. It addresses topics like lust, masturbation, pornography, prostitution, fornication, homosexuality, child abuse, rape, and artificial birth control. The key messages are that sexuality is intended for marriage between a man and woman, open to creating life; any other uses violate chastity and human dignity.
This document discusses premarital sex and extramarital sex from religious and cultural perspectives. It notes that premarital sex is debated with some viewing it as optional and others as immoral. Arguments against premarital sex include that it contradicts the purpose of sexuality for procreation and the total commitment of marriage. However, others argue that repressing sexuality is psychologically harmful. The document also outlines the Christian perspective that premarital sex takes away purity and virginity valued for marriage. Extramarital sex is considered adultery and a violation of marriage commitments that can damage family stability.
This document discusses the politics of sexual pleasure, considering sex as pleasure, sacred, and erotic. It explores defining pleasure and sex, and presents sexual pleasure as both erotic and sacred, going beyond the senses and appreciating the human body as a temple. However, mainstream culture often presents sex as violent. The document advocates embracing healthier alternatives of sexuality as a human right, and discusses how exploring sexual pleasure as heightened consciousness makes it a political issue by challenging religious views of sexuality and promoting sex as a loving expression.

Improving Human Behavior-Part Four: Evidences of the Adverse Impact of the Or...Pietro Marchitelli
The document discusses the origins of evil in human beings stemming from the fall of Adam and Eve. It argues that the fall occurred due to their premature engagement in sexual activity before reaching spiritual, psychological and physical maturity. This corrupted the development of their mind and neurological connections, imprinting sexual sensations that now strongly influence human behavior and society. To overcome this, the document claims each person must purify their mind and make divine love and conscience the default to build a just world free from issues like sexual abuse.
This document summarizes Catholic teachings against the Reproductive Health Law in the Philippines. It argues that the law violates Catholic doctrine by promoting contraception, which breaks the unitive and procreative meanings of sex. It says the law cheapens the human body and trivializes sex as a mere instinct, rather than something sacred that is meant to express love and be open to procreation. The document claims the law devalues marriage by making contraception freely available to all, and removes love from the sexual act. It asserts the law violates natural law by discouraging procreation. Overall, the document portrays the RH Law as undermining Catholic values around human sexuality, marriage, and the family.
This document provides advice on preserving sexual purity both physically and mentally. It discusses reasons to maintain purity before and after marriage, including that purity has long been cherished by civilizations and religions. While some argue for a "new morality" of sexual freedom, experiments with permissiveness have led to problems like increased out-of-wedlock children and relationship instability. The document urges avoiding influences like media that promote impurity and cultivating godly friends to help preserve one's values in a changing culture. For those who have already compromised purity, it offers hope that God is merciful to the repentant.
Rethinking: Homosexuality and the Pro-Gay MovementNeo Lamperouge
This document discusses the Christian perspective on homosexuality. It begins by defining homosexuality as gender identity confusion resulting in same-sex attraction. It asserts that the Bible is the sole authority on whether homosexuality is right or wrong. The Bible unambiguously identifies homosexuality as sinful based on several passages. While homosexuality is a sin, Christians are called to condemn the sin but not the sinner, sharing God's love and salvation through Christ. The document encourages praying for and supporting homosexuals in overcoming same-sex attraction through God's grace.
The document discusses different moral perspectives on human sexuality and sexual morality. It examines views such as:
- Sex is only permissible within marriage for the purpose of procreation (Thomas Aquinas).
- Sexual acts must respect human dignity and treat people as ends in themselves, not means (Immanuel Kant).
- Utilitarian approaches consider the overall consequences of sexual acts and do not necessarily side with traditional or non-traditional views.
The document also outlines different views on which sexual acts are considered permissible or impermissible according to various moral frameworks centered around concepts like consent, harm prevention, and emotional connection between partners.
The document summarizes the 6th and 9th commandments regarding sexuality and purity according to Catholic teachings. It discusses what sexuality means, the moral duties of fidelity and permanence in marriage, and prohibited acts like adultery, incest, masturbation, homosexuality, and pornography. It provides examples of how impurity can occur through lustful thoughts, indecent dressing, sexual harassment, or explicit media. The aim is to protect families and promote purity of heart.
1. In the Old Testament, fidelity and monogamy were not highly valued for men, who had multiple wives and concubines. Jacob had two wives and two concubines.
2. In the New Testament, Jesus allowed for divorce in some situations and taught that relationships should be centered around God. Paul taught that people should remain celibate unless married to resist sexual desires.
3. Most Christian traditions, like the Roman Catholic and some Protestant churches, believe sex is only permissible within marriage and should be oriented toward procreation rather than pleasure. However, other liberal traditions allow sex within committed relationships.
Feminist and queer love in the immigrant rightsMujer Fiera
This document discusses concepts related to sexuality, gender, and relationships from a feminist and queer perspective. It provides background on historical oppression and discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ individuals and women. Key topics covered include compulsory heterosexuality, the social construction of sexuality, the Kinsey scale, queer identity, and radical feminist views on marriage and the family.

This document discusses the sin of masturbation and argues that it is harmful and against God's design. It provides several reasons for this view:
1) Masturbation excites the body to unnatural action and speeds exhaustion of vital energies, leading to physical and mental decline.
2) It begins with lustful thoughts, which Jesus said can be a form of adultery. It also often involves fantasy and pornography.
3) While it may provide temporary relief, it actually increases sexual desire over time and enslaves people to lust.
4) True purity can only be found in resisting sinful thoughts, not choosing between "lesser evils." God empowers us to overcome all sin through
Self-Restraint Vs Self-Indulgence (MK Gandhi)Pardeep Sehgal
"The future is for the nations who are chaste". The licentious conduct of our young people, prostitution, pornography, and marriages for money, vanity or luxury, adultery and divorce, voluntary sterility and abortion, have debilitated the nation and stopped its increase; the individual has been unable to conserve his energies, and the quality of the new growth has diminished simultaneously with its quantity. "Moral indiscipline at once dries up the fountains of the race, and hastens the wear and tear of the adults whom it debilitates both morally and physically."
Sex is portrayed differently by culture and some churches than how God intends it. God designed sex for marriage to reflect Christ's self-giving love, promote oneness between spouses, and overcome sin through faith and contentment, not primarily for pleasure or self-improvement. Sex points beyond the physical to greater spiritual realities.
This document discusses natural human reproduction and argues that it respects the dignity of human life. It asserts that any act done without love violates human dignity. It presents the family as the primary place where humans develop and are formed, and argues that techniques like artificial insemination, fertilization, cloning, and surrogacy separate procreation from the loving, committed relationship between parents and threaten human dignity. The document concludes that artificial reproduction replaces God as the creator of life and that only natural reproduction within marriage fully respects human integrity.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.

Sexual ethics power point (1)
1.
2. To explore a range of Christian and secular
viewpoints
To apply these to homosexuality,
contraception and pre-marital sex
To seek insights from Kant, Natural Law,
utilitarianism and situation ethics
3. Sex is created by God as means of
procreation (Genesis 1 and 2)
Sexual relations with other tribes forbidden (1
Kings 11:1-13)
Adultery punished by stoning (Leviticus 20)
In Levitical code, women property of men and
socially inferior. Women were “unclean” due
to blood taboo after childbirth etc.
4. Jesus says little about sexual relations,
mentioning “sexual immorality” once (Mark
7:21) as “making us unclean from within”.
Paul sees the body as the Temple of the Holy
Spirit, bought back from slavery (1 Cor 6:12-
20). Context: shrine prostitution in Corinth.
Paul condemns homosexual practices as
abominations (Romans 1: 21-27), deserving
death (he was a Rabbi).
5. “There is no longer Jew nor Greek, male nor
female, slave nor free: you are all one in
Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28)
Jesus allowed unclean women to touch him
(Mark 5:30) and wash his feet, (Mark 14:6).
It’s as if the radicalism of Jesus wasn’t fully
grasp by the Rabbi, Paul.
The woman caught in adultery is not
condemned or stoned. Jesus says “go in
peace and leave your life of sin”. (Jn 8)
6. Augustine (354-440) saw the Fall of Man as
the origin of sexual lust and passion.
Before the Fall, sex was an act of will.
After the Fall, women desired men and men
ruled over women.
Sexual shame required modesty.
Sex was for marriage, and should be done out
of duty (to procreate) not pleasure.
7.
8. The body is the seat of wicked desires and
passions: “sins of the flesh”.
The soul had to overcome these temptations.
We “do not do what we want, but the very
thing I hate is what I do” (Romans 7:15).
The flesh must be “put to death”, says Paul.
This mortification is the origin of self-
flagellation (Da Vinci Code), and is still
practised in Spanish and Italian cities at Lent.
9. Sex is for procreation, a primary good
“Any act from which of its nature generation
cannot follow” is wrong.
Aquinas condemns masturbation,
homosexual acts, and acts where “the
natural style of intercourse is not observed”.
Adultery “conflicts with right reason”, even
though natural, and breaks the primary
precept of living in society.
10.
11. Might God have created us with different
natural sexual inclinations?
Is an “unnatural” sex act (like masturbation)
wrong if it harms no-one or (like living
together) is done with consent?
12. 2357 “Basing itself on Sacred Scripture,
which presents homosexuality as a grave
depravity, tradition has always declared that
homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.
They are contrary to the natural law. They
close the sexual act to the gift of life. They
do not proceed from genuine affective and
sexual complementarity. Under no
circumstances can they be approved”.
13.
14. Homosexuality is like a disease.
Breaks the natural relation to sex:
procreation, so contra naturam
But…if an alcoholic gives up drink the
benefits are clear, yet if a homosexual is in a
loving relationship, what bad effects are
there?
15. Given that key aspects of human nature
include culture and history, any moral
principle must be tested, verified, retested,
and refined according to human experience,
which may change according to time and/or
place, there can not be one “answer” that fits
for all times and places

17. “It is an error to think that a conjugal act
which is deliberately made against natural law
and so is intrinsically dishonest, could be
made honest and right by the context of a
lawful married life.”
18. The regulation of conception appears necessary for
many couples who wish to achieve a responsible,
open and reasonable parenthood in today’s
circumstances. If they are to observe and cultivate
all the essential values of marriage, married people
need decent and human means for the regulation
of conception. They should be able to expect the
collaboration of all, especially for men of learning
and science, in order that they have at their
disposal means agreeable and worthy of man in the
fulfilling of his responsible parenthood.” Pontifical
Birth Control Commission
19. Look at the nature of the sexual faculty
Designed for procreation, in marriage
context
Focus on the individual “act”
Therefore, each and every sexual act and
expression should be open to the
possibility of procreation; anything that
obstructs this is intrinsically disordered
(contra naturam)
Key value is following this “natural
function”.
20. Looks at the individual and the couple in their
whole, real life situation
Stresses the relational aspects, especially love
and “responsible parenthood”
Evaluates single acts within this total context
Key values are personal and interpersonal
flourishing (eudaimonia)
21. Tension Between Paradigms
“…objective criteria must be used, drawn from the
nature of the human person and human action, …
which respect the total meaning of mutual self-
giving and human procreation in the context of
true love…”
Gaudium et Spes, 1965:51
“it is not permissible, even for the gravest reasons,
... to make into the object of a positive act of the
will something which is intrinsically disordered, ...
even when the intention is to safeguard or promote
individual, family or social well-being.”
Humanae Vitae 1968:14
22. Remember the Principle of Conscience in
Moral Living
◦ Sanctuary of Conscience
◦ Sacred Place: Where we meet God
Safe Place: no outside authority may enter
◦ Primacy of Conscience
◦ Always follow your conscience
◦ Even when “erroneous”
◦ But take care to form and inform it.
23. Cannot universalise eg adultery – a contradiction in
will.
Difficult for heterosexuals to conceive a universal
law legalising homosexual acts contradiction in
nature.
Kant argued that “sexual love is a degradation of
human nature” (link with importance of reason and
his dislike of passions)
As soon as someone is an object of someone else’s
lust, they are being used as a means to an end.
Breaks second formulation (principle of ends).
In the contract of marriage, sex is fine.
24. Marriage is a contract of equals (respect, rights,
dignity).
Partners surrender rights to each other eg the right
to your own body.
The sole condition on which we are free to make use of our sexual desire
depends upon the right to dispose over the person as a whole.... If I have the
right over the whole person, I have also the right ... to use that person's
organa sexualia for the satisfaction of sexual desire. But how am I to obtain
these rights over the whole person? Only by giving that person the same
rights over the whole of myself. This happens only in marriage. Matrimony is
an agreement between two persons by which they grant each other equal
reciprocal rights, each of them undertaking to surrender the whole of their
person to the other with a complete right of disposal over it .... If I yield
myself completely to another and obtain the person of the other in return, I
win myself back.... In this way the two persons become a unity of wills.
25. Pleasure is the intrinsic good.
Shared pleasure can build happiness in a
relationship.
Consensual sex is what most seem to desire to be
fulfilled, so maximises happiness.
Bad consequences eg STDs should be avoided.
But is consent enough to make something “good”?
(eg sex with minors?).
Mill saw sex belonging to “lower pleasures”.
Harm principle eg long term pain of affairs.
27. Sexual shame comes out of parental influences on
the superego.
Being moral may not accord with our real natures
at all…the conscience needs to mature.
Failure to control sexual urges will undermine the
development of a virtuous character and can lead
to pathological shame.
Oedipus complex: unconscious repression of desire
to kill father and possess mother formed aged 3-6
years. Resolved by identifying with same sex
parent.

30. Draw a grid, placing the three issues, pre-
marital sex, homosexual sex, and
contraception on one axis and Kant,
utilitarianism and natural law on the other
Fill in the boxes, summarising different
approaches to sexual ethics
31. Taking the recent Church of England Report
Issues in Human Sexuality, describe and
explain the differences in moral reasoning
between Anglicans and Catholics on the
issues mentioned here.
NB There isn’t one RC or Anglican view!
