This study analyzed six oysters collected from late 18th century middens at Stratford Hall in Virginia to determine growth histories and stable isotope values. The oysters ranged from 5-8 years old and averaged 6.5 years. Growth rates declined over time but were highest in late summer, averaging around 14.2 mm per year. Stable isotope analyses found δ18O values ranged from -7.4 to -0.9‰ VPDB with an average of -5.1‰ VPDB, reflecting seasonal variability. Variations in δ13C and δ18O likely record annual and seasonal shifts in temperature and salinity during the Little Ice Age.
This document provides references for the Banff classification system for renal allograft pathology. It lists several references from 1999, 2008, 2010, and 2012 that describe updates and revisions to the Banff classification system based on new findings and concepts in renal transplant pathology, including the introduction of antibody-mediated rejection in the Banff 2001 and 2007 revisions. The references involve many of the same authors and aim to improve the standardized classification of renal allograft pathology.
MOLECULAR DETECTION OF ENTAMOEBA HISTOLYTICA IN DIFFERENT WATER SOURCES OF DI...noor ulakbar
Many protozoa in the human digestive tract can cause diseases. About 3.5 million people, including 3 million children, die each year from waterborne illnesses. Entamoeba histolytica causes over 325 waterborne disease outbreaks worldwide annually. Detecting E. histolytica in water is difficult and time-consuming. This study assessed the prevalence of E. histolytica in water sources in Peshawar district, Pakistan and measured the pH levels of different water sources to identify highly contaminated sources requiring treatment. The study found high contamination in tap water, especially in Faisal Colony, demonstrating a need for safer drinking water.
Rock candy is formed through the growth of sugar molecules as water evaporates from a supersaturated sugar solution, causing crystals to form on a string or skewer dipped in the solution. The experiment involves creating a hot, saturated sugar solution that becomes supersaturated and forms crystals when cooled slowly, with the crystals growing in layers as more molecules attach. Making rock candy allows people to observe the chemical processes behind its formation while enjoying a sweet treat.

I'll Show you mine if you show me yours: A vision for the future of film arch...Stephen McConnachie
This document presents a vision for the future of film archive search where machines can automatically search and understand results across film archive collections without human work. The vision involves three key elements: 1) Using a shared data model (EN 15907) to describe film works, manifestations, and items for comparison; 2) Systems with open APIs to expose datasets on the internet using the shared data model; and 3) Unique IDs like EIDR and ISAN for unambiguous identification of works to automate comparison. The goal is to make this infrastructure scalable, affordable, decentralized and automatic to allow humans to easily find and understand film content across collections.
This document is a summer internship report written by Collin Roughton about his experience interning at the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design in Beijing. Over the course of 8 weeks, Collin researched the history of social housing policy in the UK and produced case studies on resort developments in the US. While initially frustrated by a lack of direction, Collin eventually made a presentation relating lessons from UK housing policy to China's real estate market goals. He also worked to convince his supervisor that a large gated community development in Florida was not a good model to emulate for a similar development planned near Beijing. The internship challenged Collin to thoughtfully communicate his perspectives in a respectful, persuasive manner.

This document provides a quick introduction to Vaadin, a Java framework for building web applications. It discusses the main components available in Vaadin and how they translate from traditional Java Swing components. It also covers layouts, themes, data binding, and building a basic Vaadin application with a window, components, and layouts. The document recommends using the Vaadin sampler application to see demos of all components and get started with ready-made code examples.
This document discusses vitamin C and its relationship to the common cold. It provides background on vitamin C, including that it is an essential water-soluble vitamin that humans must obtain from their diets as they cannot synthesize it themselves. The document reviews several studies that have examined whether vitamin C supplementation can reduce the incidence, duration, or severity of the common cold. While some studies found vitamin C may reduce incidence rates, the results on duration and severity have been mixed and significance has not been conclusively demonstrated.

This document summarizes a two-year study of the seasonal dynamics of endosymbiotic ciliates and nematodes in the freshwater mussel Dreissena polymorpha. The study found that the prevalence and intensity of infection by three ciliate species (Conchophthirus acuminatus, Ophryoglena sp., and Ancistrumina limnica) and nematodes varied significantly over time. C. acuminatus and A. limnica infection intensities peaked in summer and correlated positively with water temperature, while Ophryoglena sp. and nematode infections were lower in summer and correlated negatively with temperature. The study also monitored body size and reproduction of C. acumin
