The bucket below was shipped to SAS for inspection and rebuilding. Magnetic particle inspection was performed to identify
cracks that were not readily discernible through visual inspection. The inside cheek, outer sidewall, and basket/scroll were
stripped of the worn wear strips. The numerous worn wear strips were replaced with large, continuous plates of
SA1750CR. This provided fewer seams for wear, enhanced material flow, and less material sticking to the bucket surface. In
addition, the lip, vertical cutting edge, heel bands, bushings, and a four-inch section at the rear of the basket/scroll were
removed and replaced. The rebuild was completed by replacing the worn bushings, and installing a new cast lip, teeth
adapters and teeth.
The images below show the condition of the bucket when it arrived at SAS Global Headquarters prior to the rebuild, depicting
various stages of rebuild and finally the finished bucket.
