The Red Hot Chili Peppers were formed in 1983 by four friends from high school - Anthony Kiedis, Hillel Slovak, Flea and Jack Irons. They gained a strong following in Los Angeles quickly despite only being together a few months. After personnel changes, their self-titled debut album was released in 1984. In 1988, original member Hillel Slovak died, causing the band to recruit new members John Frusciante and Chad Smith. Their album Mother's Milk was a success commercially and artistically. The band continues to make music together as a tight unit, hoping to expand their sound while retaining their unique energy.
