The National Honor Society of Alleghany High School joined the American Cancer Society in a Relay for Life event held at the Jackson River Sports Complex in May 2012. The goal of Relay for Life is to raise funds for cancer research and raise awareness about cancer. As president of the National Honor Society, the author helped create a team, organize fundraisers, set up their team's station, and tally contributions, exceeding their goal of $3,000.

In May of 2012, the
National Honor Society of
Alleghany High School
joined the American
Cancer Society in a Relay
for Life held at the
Jackson River Sports
Complex in
Covington, Virginia.

severity of cancer.

4. My Team.
As President of the National
Honor Society, my tasks
included creating a
team, organizing
fundraisers, creating a web
page for our team, setting
up/taking down our team’s
station during the event, and
tallying the teams total

5. Our Goal.
The team’s goal was to raise
$3,000 for the American Cancer
Society. With only 22 members, all
of which teenagers, we exceeded
our goal by a few hundred dollars!
