The Turtle clan is responsible for taking care of people and the environment. The Wolf clan provides leadership and teaches the importance of family bonds. Bears understand healing plants and spend time in the spirit world during hibernation, so the Bear clan acts as medicine keepers. Government policies like residential schools and the Sixties Scoop disrupted Aboriginal families and communities, but many are now reclaiming their languages, cultures, and control over education and child welfare.
