Pastor Audrey winds up her sermon series on the book of James this week with prayer. The 5th chapter of James has much to say about the subject, and after all the encouragement to live a life of leadership and to reach for and find the wisdom that comes from heaven, encouragement to a life of prayer is an amazing way to end this journey.

Unique Egyptian Soccer Team with Christian Identity Takes RootJamal Daniel
Based in Houston, Jamal Daniel oversees a portfolio of investment holdings and is also director of The Levant Foundation, which focuses on furthering knowledge and appreciation of the Middle East’s monotheistic religions. As head of Al-Monitor, Jamal Daniel also oversees a media company known for its unbiased regional perspectives.
A February 2021 Al-Monitor feature explored a unique Egyptian football team, the Je Suis (I Am) Club, which was founded by Christian soccer pro Mina Bendary. The impetus for the team came when Bendary joined the Alexandrian Union Club of the Egyptian Football Association in 2015 and was asked to take a non-Christian name, “Ibrahim,” instead of Mina.
After six months on the squad Bendary, facing questions from his church and colleagues, left to start his own team. His vision was a club that would celebrate and support other Christian athletes who faced a similar situation. The result has been a club that has accepted players without barriers when it comes to cultural and religious identifications. In addition to helping Christians achieve success, Je Suis Club has welcomed Muslim players. Having grown from 20 to 140 players, it now competes within the fourth level of the Egyptian League.

1. LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION FOR CARL WHITE 01/02/13
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
In 2009, I had the good pleasure of becoming acquainted with Coach White when I was brought
on as an assistant football coach at Carson-Newman College. Over the course of my time at
Carson-Newman, I got to know Carl both professionally and personally.
Coach White is a tremendous football coach that cares deeply about his student-athletes. I saw
Coach White’s passion regarding the players in the way that he helped them in recruiting. Carl
jumped at any opportunity to drive his kids to our campus and demonstrate to them how
important a college education is, and the avenue they can use through football to get there.
Coach White is a sharp coach with a good knowledge of the game and a passion for what he
does.
Beyond the game of football, I got to know Carl and his wife Erin off of the field. The Whites are
active members at Arrowhead Church in Morristown, TN – it was a pleasure getting to know the
White family in this setting. Coach White is a man of faith and a man of integrity, and I have no
doubt that he will have a deep, lasting impact on the kids that he coaches.
Carl White would be an asset to your school, and I have confidence in recommending him to be
your football coach. Coach White will foster a sense of academic achievement through
accountability – a successful football team through his coaching ability – and a sense of duty
and responsibility in the community for his team through his ability to develop character.
Sincerely,
Josh Bookbinder
