Ray Sanchez was a 1945 graduate of El Paso High School who had a distinguished career as a sports writer and author. He worked as a sports writer for the El Paso Herald Post from 1950 to 1990, making him the first Hispanic sports editor in El Paso. Over his career he covered many major sporting events and interviewed prominent national figures. He has been inducted into multiple El Paso sports halls of fame in recognition of his contributions to sports in his hometown.
