As interest in cloud solutions and their use with enterprise applications has increased, MavenWire has taken a lead in implementing and benchmarking several instances of OTM using Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2). This presentation outlines how the instances were set up and configured; potential benefits of OTM in the cloud; cost and performance comparisons between the cloud and "traditional" server configurations; areas of concern and issues to be aware of when implementing OTM in the cloud. In addition, we will also outline what we believe the future direction of cloud OTM will be, as well as where we believe it is best suited to customer needs.

A. DMV Organizational Overview (p. 2)
The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is a governmental agency in the Executive Branch of Virginia state government. Under the direction of the Secretary of Transportation, DMV administers motor vehicle and tax related laws for the continued benefit of all citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Specifically, DMV administers motor vehicle titling and licensing laws, driver’s licensing laws, transportation safety laws, tax laws, and other motor vehicle-related laws and regulations as directed by the Code of Virginia and Federal laws, as amended.
DMV employs nearly 2000 full and part-time employees to meet its daily mission of providing transportation services to customers in Virginia. These employees provide services via one centralized administrative Headquarters located in Richmond, Virginia as well as 74 Customer Service Centers (CSC’s) and 13 Motor Carrier Service Centers/Weigh Stations (MCSC’s) dispersed throughout the state. In addition, some services are provided at more than 40 DMV Select offices located throughout the state. DMV Selects are a service alternative to visiting a full-service DMV Customer Service Center. Local governments and private entities contract with DMV to provide secure, select DMV transactions at convenient locations.
DMV provides a multitude of services to private citizens, transportation entities, courts, law enforcement agencies, government agencies, insurance companies, and related transportation clients. The most commonly provided DMV services include:
· Credentialing – This includes the provision of driver testing and licensing, vehicle titling and registration, credentialing of commercial motor carriers, and regulatory licensing functions such as fuel distributors, rental car companies, dealers, commercial driver training schools, driver improvement clinics, and 3rd party testers.
· Tax processing – This includes support for the calculation, collection, accounting, and reporting statistics for all tax filings (including IFTA, tax on fuel, and tax on motor vehicle rentals) as well as support for an external/taxpayer audit function.
· Oversight of related programs such as transportation safety and information management

GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

2. Introduction
Thank you for taking your valuable time to review rateManager ASP.
This preview will provide only a simple glimpse of the design and
capabilities of rateManager ASP and the thinRate Web Service Rate
Engine. For a more detailed preview, please contact us and we will
setup a web demonstration at your convenience.
To navigate through the slide show, simply click your mouse to move
to the next slide.
3. After you have successfully logged into rateManager ASP,
we must select a Client Profile to work with.
Rates are uniquely stored for each client profile.
4. You will need at least one client profile to maintain
rates, however multiple client profiles are available
dependant on licensing.
5. The first step to adding rates is to create a Rate
Application record. These records serve as an index
during rating and outlines how rates for the specific
Rate Reference will apply.
6. All detailed information about the rates are stored in
this record, with the exception of the rates themselves.
7. Once you’ve created a Rate Application record, you
can start adding rates. The above example illustrates
a Basic Commodity or Point to Point rate.
8. You can also keep track of Fuel Surcharge rates for
each carrier. rateManager ASP tracks various Fuel
Surcharge types, including US-DOE, US-DOE (Mileage
Based), FCA-NATC as well as Negotiated FSC.
9. Negotiated Fuel Surcharge records are date driven.
When a carrier changes his negotiated FSC, simply
add a new record with the new effective date and
rates.
10. FCA Based Fuel Surcharge Levels are published
weekly at the FCA-NATC site. These levels are
commonly used for Canadian Domestic and Cross
Border freight moving via Canadian Carriers.
11. US DOE based Fuel Surcharge Levels are governed
by the Average Fuel Price Index published weekly by
the US Department Of Energy.
12. Carriers that use the US-DOE method calculate their Fuel
Surcharge levels based on the then current average
price of fuel for the region they subscribe to. The US-
DOE method is generally used for US Domestic and
Cross Border freight moving via US Carriers.
13. The Rate Discount screen is used specifically for
Class based rates. It allows for discounts to be
calculated off NMFC based Class Rate modules that
you can license from SMC3, FCA-NATC or MWB.
14. Value Added Services (accessorial charges) are also
stored for each carrier. This means that you can
accurately calculate fees for all accessorial services
provided by any carrier, for any freight movement.
15. Finally, you can test the rates you have stored using
the Test Rate function. Simply select origin and
destination(s), weight, any specific requirements for
equipment or service, then click Submit.
16. If you did not select a specific carrier, then the thinRate
Web Service Engine returns all rates loaded for the
origin destination points entered. Rates are returned
sorted by lowest to highest cost. To view a rate detail,
simply double-click on any line.
17. The Rate Detail provides a breakdown for the rates
calculated, including FSC, VAS and any discounts (if
applicable). Canadian domestic rates are subject to
various taxes, and they are returned in the calculated
amounts as well.
18. In this example, we are going to obtain domestic
Canadian rates. Note you can request rates using
either a postal/zip code or a specific city name.
20. Notice that in addition to the Fuel Surcharge being
calculated, thinRate WS also retrieved the applicable
GST tax for this request and added it to the total.
21. Global Rate Maintenance is available to all
stored rates except the Czar/MWB/FCA
modules. This means that when you take a
rate increase, you can automatically apply
it against the current rate levels, rather than
have to re-key the rates.
22. You can provide different increase levels defined by
rate types. In this example, the carrier negotiated a
5% increase on Minimum Charges, and a 4.5%
increase on LTL rates. Note that you can also define
rounding properties for the increased rates.
23. Easy Installation and Access
The rateManager ASP
system can be easily
setup into any
network. Whether
onsite, or remotely via
a hosted provider, the
complete system is
browser based written
in current .NET
technology available
to your users.
24. The Power of XML
Rate Request thinRate WS
Originator XML Rate Engine
The thinRate WS Rate Engine uses XML messaging to
request and return rates. This provides lightning
quick response times.
25. Easy Integration
The thinRate WS
Engine can be easily
integrated into any
third party application
that requires freight
rating. XML is the
transport mechanism
for Rate Requests and
Rate Responses.
26. Integrated Resources
rateManager ASP uses “best of breed’
technology to extend the rating capability
