1. Robert A. Shipley is the founding partner of Shipley Law Group,
Ltd. For 35 years he has maintained long-standing client relationships
while engaged in an active litigation and trial practice, along with
general business counseling. Mr. Shipley focuses his practice in civil
litigation involving complex commercial, construction, insurance,
professional liability and tort litigation and general business counseling,
as well as Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution. An
experienced trial attorney, he has in excess of 100 cases to verdict and
has successfully argued cases in the Illinois Appellate Court.
Mr. Shipley has been awarded the AV® Preeminent Peer Review Rating™ from

Preeminent Lawyers™ since 2010.
Construction litigation – Represents design professionals, contractors and owners in
litigation matters involving construction claims and disputes, design and construction
defects, delay claims, lien claims, surety claims and professional liability actions. Mr.
Shipley litigates injury and property tort claims, represents clients in insurance and other
coverage claims, and arbitrates and mediates construction disputes. He advises clients
on risk management and in the implementation of dispute resolution procedures.
Insurance – Represents insurers in claims involving fraud, life insurance, liability and
property claims, coverage analysis and disputes.
Insurance defense litigation – Represents clients in claims involving personal injury,
property claims, business disputes, breach of contract, product liability and tort claims.
General business litigation – Represents clients in claims involving contract disputes,
dissolution of business relationships and general business litigation. Handles disputes
involving shareholders, partners, employers and employees, and competitors. Advises
all forms of commercial organizations, sole proprietorships, partnerships, limited liability
companies and corporations, regarding business organization, commercial law, and real
estate.
Professional Liability – Represents professionals, including physicians and lawyers, in
claims involving malpractice and professional privilege disputes. Represents design
professionals arising from construction related claims.
Mr. Shipley is a certified mediator and panel arbitrator for the American Arbitration
Association and Cook County Mandatory Arbitration Program.
Mr. Shipley received his Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois University College of Law in
1978 and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in
1975. He is a graduate of the DePaul University Center for Dispute Resolution.
2. Mr. Shipley is licensed to practice law in Illinois and is admitted to the Illinois State Bar,
U.S. District court for the Northern District of Illinois and the U.S. Court of Appeals for
the Seventh Circuit. He is a member of the Trial Bar of the U.S. District Court for the
Northern District of Illinois.
Mr. Shipley’s professional affiliations also include the Illinois State Bar Association where
he is past chairman of the Interdisciplinary Cooperation Committee and former member
of the Civil Practice and Procedure Section Counsel. He is a member of the American Bar
Association, Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel, Defense Research Institute and
Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys.
