7. To help manage mild to moderate eczema symptoms, it is important to support the skin’s barrier function
by using products that are designed to help retain moisture in the skin and reduce dryness and itch.
Avoid use of soap
and other potential irritants
Soap can reduce the number of corneocyte
layers in the stratum corneum and strip
away the skin’s natural layer of
protective oils.10,11,12
Using a soap free wash will help to gently
cleanse away surface impurities while
helping to reduce the risk of irritation.
Apply unperfumed moisturisers
regularly and liberally
Moisturisers help in maintaining the skin
barrier function and enable the skin to rehydrate
or reduce water loss,10,11
relieving dryness and itch.
For infected eczema flares, topical emollients
containing antiseptics are often used.
These products should be discussed with

Make lifestyle changes
Lifestyle changes can help to reduce
the occurrence of eczema symptoms.
Avoid common irritants such as fragrances
and foods high in acid and spice that
may aggravate eczema, take luke-warm
