Question 4:
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The main image gives a
negative effect to the
audience as he is
covering his face
wearing gloves and
holding a sprain can,
which gives the
audience a immediate
assumption of quite a
explicit content and
genre.
Also he wears quite
dark, stereotypical chavy
clothing which stick to
the housestyle of blue
and black which connote
and represents the dark
background of the
genre. But also the blue
could show that he is
aiming for riches and
keeping cool.
You can see from the small images that the artists are all male, which makes the audience stereotypically male as
women are seen as more lighter audience and wouldn’t like all the volience and negative representations of the
genre and artists. The artists below have all got there hoods up to give a negative representation which young men
and teenagers would appeal to as they like the sense of danger and could maybe relate to there life.
The audience would be
more lower class as
they are thought to be
dangerous and have no
job or one which is not
good money. They are
also known to be
around the age group
of 16-20, and live in
inner citys. As most
grime music videos are
in the streets around
big citys.
They are thought to not
have the most
expensive clothing but
wear fake designer
makes and
stereotypically buy
black clothing, pouches
and hats.
The age group is shown
effectively in my contents
page due to the use of dark
colours and images, as the
colours are mostly dark blue
and black with abit of white,
which connotes danger again,
and looks quite mysterious.
Also the images have a dark
effect and have low key
lighting to give a gloomy
effect. The artists look around
the age of teenagers to older
men and this is the audience
targeted. The age group are
like social media and are quite
advanced with the technology
so they would get information
about artists and grime of
social media websites such as
facebook and youtube.
As you can see from the
articles they seem quite
stereotypically male as they
are all about predominantly
male things, such as grime
battles, hell and back, and
hearing about a man
returning after 1 year of
jail, where as girls are seen
as more interesting in
fashion and more lighter
genres such as pop. Also by
the images there are not
any images including girls
and relating to colour girls
are seen to be connoted
with colours such as pink,
red and purple which have
opposite connotations to
grime. As male are seen as
more violent and
mischievous people.
The social class is from lower to middles class, as these people as you can see from the images, and from grime videos
they like to hang round on streets, which shows that they do not have jobs or a decent job, or have a car or anything
better to do. They are people who stereotypically wear tracksuits and snapbacks who maybe work part time on minimum
wage download music illegally as they cannot afford to buy them.
This is a stereotypically grime audience, as you can see they are wearing big puffer jackets and wearing beanies and
The age of the group
is quite older
teenagers to young
men, as the look
around 19-20, but
looks younger by how
they are dressing as
grime is saw as a
teenager’s genre.
When making my
magazine I made sure
that my artists where
young to represent
this.
In my magazine I tried
hard to represent my
artists as middle class
grime audience so the
audience had role
models to look up to
rather and want to be
like, rather than looking
poor.
I tried to also use more
light clothing to make
the genre not seem as
depressing and violent
and more of a rap like
genre
The genre is doomy and quite dark, but I didn’t want to give a negative impact to the audience so I looked at more
grime artists who I more middle class and wore more designer and richer clothing, the age of these people were about
20+ as you can see they have matured from being a more dark and mischievous, with a smarter dress sence.
