How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
My magazine represents various types of people. Male, female, teenagers and older
people within the age range of 16-25.
GENDER
My magazine pages represents both genders, male and female. This is shown throughout my
magazine because of various things that I have done so that my magazine appeals to both
male and female.
One of the things that I have done to appeal to both audiences is by
using colours that both genders would like. I have used these colours
which are quite dark but bright colours. Like yellow, red and white.
And usually associated with the genre rock, the dark background and
yellow.
Also with the choice of the font because it is
quite bold which goes with the whole ‘rock’
idea. And as it is quite big and the colours are
bold, this then makes the whole title and font
stand out over the dark background.
The way that the male on the background is dressed applies
to both genders because the way that he is dressed shows
that he is quite stylish and on trend, so by having him on the
background this represents gender and age range.
Although on my magazine there is a lot of males because of the band that I
chose as it was a male band. It gives off quite a stereotype that my magazine
genre “Indie Rock” is more aimed at male because of the dark colours and
more than likely males would be on the cover or in the magazine.
TARGET AUDIENCE(16-25)
Young people aged 16-25 are represented
through the type of content and the colour and
font.
On my contents page all of the content is relevant to people within my age
range (16-25) because of the type of artists and the information that would
be found out through the content. Because of the bands that I have
included within my magazine.
All of the content that is included in my magazine is all relevant to my target
audience. I have made my magazine to be updated with all of the new music
news, festival news and I have included incentives so that members of my
audience would be interested, mainly younger members. By including the content
that I have about festivals and all new music this would represent my target
audience because this is the kind of information that younger people would be
interested in.
The stereotype of young people shown through my
magazine is of them being very interested in music and
always listening to it, so because of this I have included
music guide which would be used by quite a large amount
of people because they may want to learn more about
music.
Members of my target audience are represented
throughout the colour and the Mise en scene and the
text. Because the colours show you what type of
audience that its aimed at, and when I asked members
of my target audience which colours – yellow, red and
black was one of the main colours selected. Because it
applies to every gender and age.
