The Health Foundation 2
3. What is the NHS Evidence
QIPP Collection?
• Evidence to support quality and productivity
locally
• Real examples of how staff have made changes
that save money and increase quality
• Aims to provoke ideas and discussions about
changes that can be made locally
• Examples are organised around topic areas
• Examples being added to build a
comprehensive library of evidence.
• NHS Evidence - QIPP collection will help the
NHS identify efficiency savings that can be made
while continuing to deliver high quality care.

4. Why submit Shine projects to QIPP?
• A good way to promote the work you
have been doing and gain recognition as
national beacons
• Adding to a national resource of tried
and tested approaches
• Additional credibility for the work as
reviewed by NICE for economic rigour
• And peer reviewed for feasibility of
spread and the contribution to quality
improvement The Health Foundation

Designed to make it as simple as possible
Complete the online form
Fill out every section ensuring it is
succinct but complete
Choose the topic heading (most will be
acute care)
Don’t be too modest!
The Health Foundation 7
8. Assessment criteria
Gate 1: Amount of resource – savings delivered/anticipated
NICE assessment particularly focussed on this
Gate 2: Quality outcomes – impact on quality
Be explicit on this – don’t expect assessors to read between
the lines
Gate 3: Evidence
• evidence on which the initiative is based
• evidence of deliverables from implementation
Gate 4: Implementability – value/effort assessment
Use your end of project reports for 3 & 4
It will be important to stress that it has been part of an
externally assessed and supported programme
The Health Foundation 8
9. What external assessors are
looking for
Accessibility – understanding what was
done
Being convinced that it is generalisable
Concerns about amount of effort required
The availability of documentation and
reports to help other people replicate the
approach
The Health Foundation 9

Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust
