Clipping is a word formation process when a word of more than one syllable is reduced to a

ASAP – As Soon As Possible
AWOL- Absent Without Leave
LASER – Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation
NASA—National Aeronautics and Space Administration
Folk Etymology refers to the changing of a word phrase over time which result from the
replacement of an unfamiliar form by a more familiar one. That say, the study of origin and history
of words and the changes in their form and meaning.
