THE PROPHETIC INTERCESSOR
INTERCESSION is the right to shape and make
History, and each of us gets to step up to the
Plate as part of our calling as priests before the
Lord.
FOUR DEFINITIONS OF THE TASK OF PRIESTLY
INTERCESSION:
1. Being God’s Secretary – Isaiah 62:6-7
On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed
WATCHMEN; all day and all night they will never
Keep silent. You who remind the Lord, take no
Rest until He establishes and make Jerusalem
A praise in the earth.
AN INTERCESSOR IS ONE WHO REMINDS THE
LORD OF PROMISES AND APPOINTMENTS NOT
YET FULFILLED.
The person of prayer searches through the
Divine calendar, Bible, and finds the promises
and appointments that have not yet been
completed. After locating these, he reminds his
BOSS, OUR LORD, that it is time for Him to fulfill
His Word.
2. TAKING UP THE CAUSE OF JUSTICE
ISAIAH 59:15-16 Yes, truth is lacking; and he who
Turns aside from evil makes himself a prey. Now
The Lord saw, and it was displeasing in His sight
That there was no justice. And He saw that there
Was no man, and was astonished that there was
NO ONE TO INTERCEDE.
An intercessor is one who takes up the cause of
Justice before God on behalf of another.
We stand in the gap before the Lord for those in
Great need or distress, lifting a cry to Him.
WE CAN CHANGE SOCIETY/NATIONS BY DOING
THIS!!!!!!
3. BUILDING UP THE WALL
EZEKIEL 13:4-5 O ISRAEL, your prophets have been
Like foxes among ruins. You have not gone up into
The breaches (breaks in the wall), nor did you build
The wall around the house of Israel to stand in the
Battle on the day of the Lord.
An intercessor is one who makes up the hedge,
Who builds up the wall of protection in a time of
Battle.
We do not have watchmen on the walls, surveying
The schemes of the devil. No guards = No
Protection.
4. STANDING IN THE GAP
Ezekiel 22:30-31 I searched for a man among them
Who would build up the wall and stand in the gap
Before me for the land, so that I would not
Destroy it; but I FOUND NO ONE.
Thus I have poured out My indignation on them;
I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath;
Their way I have brought/poured upon their
heads, declares the Lord.
God is waiting for someone to persuade Him not
to pour out His indignation.
Our incense/prayers will cause judgment to be
Averted or postponed. We can use our
intercessory capital to purchase seasons of
mercy.
An Intercessor is one who stands in the gap
between God’s righteous judgments and the
people’s need for mercy.
We have been invited into a holy wrestling match
With God himself. God searches for a people
Who will hold His judgments at bay.
We are the fighting BRIDE, the worshipping ARMY
Of God. His eyes are scouring the earth to mark
those who weep over their Jerusalem, to find
those who know how to worship Him in spirit and
in truth.
There are 3 major areas where we exercise
Prophetic gifts:
1. Area of church gatherings, cell/home
meetings and congregational celebrations –
this is equipping the church.
2. The secular community that our lives touch
and influence: marketplace, arts, govt.,
business community or at Starbucks.
3. Prophetic Intercession – speaking
prophetically back to God.
It is time for a company of anointed prophetic
intercessors to lay hold of God’s promises for our
generation.
Luke 2: 36 – 38
• And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the
daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher: she
was of a great age, and had lived with a husband
seven years from her virginity;
• And she was a widow of about fourscore and four
years, which departed not from the temple, but
served God with fastings and prayers night and
day.
• And she coming in that instant gave thanks
likewise unto the Lord, and spoke of him to all
them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
Points to Ponder
• Anna spent her days in the temple crying out
to the Lord, DAY and NIGHT, with prayers and
fasting.
• She was consumed with a burning passion.
• After years of what some would call inactivity
her waiting paid off.
• WHAT INSPIRED HER TO GO ON?
• Burdens and Crises come and go, what
motivates intercessors over the long haul?
• Only One thing:
• A CONSUMING VISION OF OUR LORD
HIMSELF. After all, He is the goal and prize of
life.
• WHAT WAS ANNA’S PROPHETIC MINISTRY?
• She was a woman of the SECRET PLACE, not
with a public ministry at all but interceding
with the purposes of God for her generation.
• ENDURING INTERCESSION was the expression
of her Prophetic Ministry.
Anna was a Prophetic, Intercessory Jesus Fanatic.
Luke 12:38
At that very moment Anna came up and began
Giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of
Him to all those who were looking for the
Redemption of Jerusalem.
Her burden had included searching through the
Prophetic promises that had not yet been fulfilled.
She was looking for a deliverer/Messiah/hope of
Israel.
She was one of a special task force of prophetic
Intercessors whom God had ordained for that
Generation.
They were the ones listening and watching for
The Lord’s appearing.
Anna was praying through those beloved
Prophetic promises of a coming Messiah.
A PROPHETIC GENERATION
The gift of prophecy is the special ability that
God gives to members of the body of Christ to
Receive and communicate an immediate
message of God to His gathered people, a group
among them or any one of His people
individually, through a divinely anointed
utterance. Anglican Bishop David Pytches
It is becoming God’s mouthpiece, to verbalize His
Words as the Spirit directs.
PROPHETIA – gk word meaning “speaking forth
The mind and counsel of God.”
The substance and nature of prophecy is super-
Natural, coming from the heart of God into the
Heart and mind of a person by the gifts of the
Holy Spirit.
A message is authentically prophetic only if it
Comes from the heart of God, magnifies the Lord
Jesus and challenges the hearer to greater
Obedience to God’s commands.
What does it mean to be a prophetic people?
We are building a community in love, walking
Under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and releasing
The revelatory presence of the Holy Spirit into
Every area of life.
THE PROPHETIC GIFTS OF GOD ARE FOR THE
MANY NOT JUST THE FEW!!!!!!
The Prophetic cry of Moses:
Numbers 11:14 – 17, 25 When the Spirit rested
Upon them, they PROPHESIED. But they did not
Do it again.
Verse 26 – 27 Eldad and Medad are prophesying
In the camp.
CULTIVATING GOD’S REVELATORY PRESENCE:
1. Opening our Spiritual Eyes – Eph.1: 15-19
V. 18 The eyes of your understanding being
Enlightened/ that the eyes focused and clear, so
That you can see exactly what it is He is calling
You to do.
Calling forth the Spirit of Revelation into your
Own life.
2. Listening, Watching, Waiting – Prov 8:32-36
Listen to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting
At my doorsteps. For He who finds me finds life
and obtains favor from the Lord.
Resulting promises:
-You will be supernaturally blessed
-You will find life
-You will obtain favor from the Lord.
True prayer involves Selah. Rest. Slow down.
3. Expecting God to move – Exo 33:8 – 11
v.11 When Moses returned to the camp, his
Servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man,
Would not depart from the tent.
Joshua was a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord.
He learned the lesson of listening, waiting, and
Watching. How?
Waiting, he would not leave the tent of meeting
until Moses came out having been in the presence
Of the Lord.
Watching, Joshua was the first to see the glow on
Moses’ face. Listening, Joshua was the first to
Hear the report of what had happened beyond the
Mystical veil.
He waited in eager anticipation that the Lord was
On the move: God was going to speak, to show
His form.
Expectation is the final key that changes the
Waiting game into an opportunity for the Spirit
Of Revelation to be activated.
A spirit of Revelation is necessary if we are to
Intercede effectively.
The Lord is searching for an “ANNA COMPANY”
Today, intercessors who will pray through the
Promises of our Lord.
The Holy Spirit is sending out invitations today,
What is your response????
Many of the greatest intercessors of our time
Has been women. Their sensitivity of spirit,
Their passion for the things of God, the readiness
With which they yield their hearts to God to plead
His cause. These revelatory Warriors know how to
PUSH – PRAY UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS
Let us arise, O Church, put off our slumber and
Cry out until we, like Anna 2 thousand years ago,
Behold Christ. It is time for a bunch of Holy Spirit
PUSHers to rise up.
Defining Terms:
PRIEST – His job is to plead the needs of the people
Before the Lord. Carries the burdens, needs, and
cares of others before God.
As priests our hearts pulse with the needs of our
Cities, Congregations, and Nations.
PROPHET - Represents the interests of God to the
People. Having stood in the council of the
Almighty, the prophet releases what is in His heart
Through a Clarion call. He releases Words,
Thoughts, messages and inspirations that are
beating in the heart of God right now.
PROPHETIC INTERCESSION - The place where the
Ministry of the priest and prophet unite.
Jer 27:18 If they are Prophets, and if the Word of
the Lord is with them; let them now entreat the
Lord of Hosts.
Prophetic Intercessors do not only pronounce the
Word of the Lord; they in turn PRAY THE PROMISE
Back to the Father. They GIVE BIRTH to the
promise.
Prophetic intercession paves the way for the
Fulfillment of the prophetic promise.
How it Works:
In prophetic intercession the Spirit of God pleads
The covenant promises made throughout history
To be enacted in our day. This inspired form of
Intercession is the urge to PRAY, GIVEN BY THE
HOLY SPIRIT, for a situation or circumstance
About which you may have little knowledge. But
You are praying the prayer request that is on the
HEART OF GOD. He nudges you to pray so that
He can intervene.
The Holy Spirit directs you to pray
To bring forth His Will on earth as it is in Heaven.
Prophetic Intercession is the ability to receive a
Prayer request from God and pray it back to Him.
God’s Hand comes on you, and He imparts His
burden to you.
It is not as much PRAYING TO GOD as it is PRAYING
With God.
THERE IS A DIFFERENCE:
WE THEN STAND IN THE GAP IN GOD-
INSPIRED, GOD-DIRECTED INTERCESSION.
We combine waiting, listening and reading the
Scriptures with letting the Holy Spirit remind us
of the promise that is on His heart at that
moment. We allow God’s heartbeat pulse in our
own beings. Exciting!!!!!!
All prophetic intercession carries the struggle of
Birth. The heart of the intercessor becomes the
Womb in which God’s prophetic purposes come
Forth. It is our conspiring together with God,
Breathing violently into situations through prayer
To bring forth life.
Eph 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and
Made us sit together in heavenly places in
Christ Jesus.
Prophetic Intercessors looked from a heavenly
Vantage point. Seeing with the discerning eyes
Of the Holy Spirit. Intercession assumes a
Revelatory dimension.
Amos 7:15 Go Prophesy
Unto my people Israel.
A shepherd and Farmer,
he saw through the
veneer of temporal
prosperity and exposed
the weakness and
decay in Israel that was
inviting doom.
Amos 7:1-3 Warning of God to send locusts and
Amos responsibility as an intercessor to pray and
Plead for God’s mercy. He reminded God that His
People bore His Covenant name. He pleaded on
the basis of God’s reputation in the earth. Stood
in the gap between God’s righteous judgments
and people’s need for mercy. He boldly put his
face into God’s face.
v. 4-6 – Fire. Amos tenacious watchful responsive
Spirit in prayer. He was keenly observant and
prepared to intervene.
Amos received 5 visions concerning the destiny
Of the Nation:
Locust plague
Fire sweeping the Nation
Plumb line – Nation’s weak foundation
Basket of summer fruits – inner decay from
Repudiating God’s word = famine of God’s word
Hopelessness of escape from the vengeance of
God.
The visions were progressive in nature. Each came
With an opportunity for repentance.
But each successive judgment seemed harder to
Avert. Like Amos, we must repent, confess our
Unbelief toward an omnipotent god and cry to
The Lord for mercy and healing for the broken
Body of His Son.
Isa 26:9 At night my soul longs for you, indeed,
my spirit within me seeks you diligently; for when
The earth experiences your judgments the
Inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.
The Holy Spirit is searching once again for a new
Generation of:
Daniels- those with extra-ordinary spirit to whom
God can give understanding of the end-
times.
Esthers-Prophetic watchmen who can arise for such
a time as this.
Deborahs- to emerge from their comfort zones,
making a difference in every area of
society.
Josephs-wise interpreters of dreams who can save
their people from catastrophe.
HE IS LOOKING FOR YOU!!!!!!!
BE POSSESSED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD
THIS IS THE KEY TO ALL EFFECTIVENESS IN
PROPHETIC INTERCESSION.

  • #8 The prayer warrior has another distinct task: to fend off god’s wrath. We are to take our position between god and his people.between god and the world.called to build up a wall.
