Project "ALIS" involves restoring a 34-year old fiberglass motor boat that had been lifted out of the water without maintenance for 5 years. The restoration included sanding and repairing the hull, servicing the engine, repainting the exterior and interior, revarnishing woodwork, replacing wiring and electronics, and installing new safety equipment. The goal was to return the neglected boat to like-new condition through extensive cleaning, repairs, painting, and replacement of worn parts.

1. PROJECT “ALIS”
“ALIS” is 34 years old fibreglass Motor Boat (year built 1980).
Lifted out of water after 5 years without any maintenance.
PREPARATION:
 Cleaning and sanding whole boat, exterior and interior. Sanding with triangular sanding
machine and orbital sanding machine, sand paper P120. Coating hull with fibreglass (3 coats)
and major repairs using Veneziani resin. Sanding resin patches and repairs. Fairing and filling
using HEMPEL Epoxy Filler. Sanding filler with triangular sanding machine, sandpaper P120.
Finishing with sandpaper P320, above and below water line.
 Carpentry and varnishing of woodwork. Taking off old varnish using heat gun. Sanding with
sandpaper P120 and P320. Varnishing with HEMPEL Varnish, total of 4 coats. Sanding
between coats with sandpaper P320. New ceiling, 6mm waterproof plywood.
 Full service of TORPEDO Inboard Engine, 2 cylinders, 24hp/18kw. All new valves, gaskets,
filters, new starter. Chipped, sanded and repainted with HEMPEL ENAMEL Engine Paint.
 Wire brushing and polishing of copper propeller.

FINISHING:
 Above waterline exterior and interior: 3 coats of HEMPEL’S LIGHT PRIMER,application
with brush and roller. Sanding between coats with sandpaper P320. Finishing with 2 coats of
HEMPEL GLOSS ENAMEL Topcoat, spray application. Sanding between coats with
sandpaper P320. Non-skid area painted with brush and roller.
 Below waterline: 2 coats of HEMPEL’S UNDERWATER PRIMER,application with brush
and roller. Sanding between coats with sandpaper P320. 3 coats of HEMPEL’S
ANTIFOULING,application with brush and roller. Sanding between coats with sandpaper
P320.
 Painting bilges, 3 coats of HEMPEL’S Bilge and Locker Paint
 Varnishing woodwork, 4 coats of HEMPEL Varnish.
 New wires and electronics, navigation lights, interior lights
 New sea chest,fuel valve, overboard non return valve, shaft, zincs, bitts, swimming platform.
 New LSA,fire extinguisher
 New cushions and mattresses
