Kenneth Wirth: How Teamwork Foundation Builds Achievement through Sports
Kenneth Wirth cofounded the Connecticut Flame AAU basketball program and sits on the Board of the Teamwork Foundation, which provides mentoring, tutoring, and elite sports training to 500 children from underprivileged neighborhoods in the Bronx each year. Through these programs, the children gain skills and opportunities to succeed in school and receive a chance to participate in elite national travel basketball teams like the highly successful Gaucho Basketball program, whose alumni have found success in the NBA, coaching, and more. Wirth recently attended the Teamwork Foundation gala honoring alumnus Chris Mullin.

SWX/WAL - USCIS
The Southwest Express Library (SWX) and Walter Library have partnered with USCIS to help immigrants through the naturalization process. Citizenship Corners were created at both libraries to provide educational materials from USCIS. The libraries also promote citizenship classes on the citizenshipcorner.org website. USCIS representatives regularly visit the citizenship classes to directly communicate with applicants and provide information about the naturalization process. Students have attended open houses at the Houston USCIS office to learn about the naturalization interview. The partnership between the libraries and USCIS helps educate immigrants and bring the naturalization process to a local level.
Push to Keep Incoming College Students on Track
Education researchers have identified "summer melt" as the period after high school graduation when some college-bound students fail to follow through on their plans to attend college. Studies show around 20% of graduating high school seniors do not end up enrolling in college, and for prospective community college students the rate is around 40%. Counseling centers and school districts are using various interventions like text messages and drop-in counseling to help students navigate the enrollment process and keep them on track during the summer period before their first semester begins. A lack of financial aid and missing deadlines are two major reasons students fall through the cracks over the summer.

They will announce an architectural design competition for students to design an e-library for the Tubman campus. The Tubman University Foundation is inviting sponsors to their inaugural gala reception on June 28th to support the competition, with a $5,000 presenting sponsorship providing prominent recognition.
