Mother Teresa of Calcutta, whose birth name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, was born on August 26, 1910 in Skopje, Macedonia and died on September 5, 1997 in Calcutta, India. She was a Catholic nun and missionary who founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India in 1950 and dedicated her life to serving the poor and sick in India. She received numerous honors including the Pope John XXIII Peace Prize and the Nehru Prize for promoting international peace and understanding.
