A president of Venezuela cooperated with the IMF after his election, despite running an anti-neoliberal campaign where he criticized the IMF and World Bank. As president, he implemented measures to privatize state companies, reform taxes, reduce customs duties, and diminish the role of the state in the economy. The most controversial move was eliminating gas subsidies, causing domestic petrol prices to rise up to 100% and public transportation costs to increase 30%.
