The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. down opposite Character1 still looking really concerned.
C1:
Are you ok?
C2:
No I’m not! I’m really sorry I’ve done something terrible! You’re going to hate
me!
C1:
why? What have you done?
C2:
Promise me you wont hate me! I’m so sorry I can’t believe I’ve done this. You’re
never going to forgive me!
C1:
Calm dow—
C2: I’m a monster! A terrible friend! Oh no you’re going to hate me so much! I’m
so sorry! Please don’t hate me!
C1 is starting to get worried.
C1:
what did you do?
C2:
Please don’t hate me! Oh no please don’t hate me! I’m so sorry! Please forgive
me! Im so sorr—
C1:
PLEASE JUST TELL ME WHAT YOU DID!
C2 is surprised and taken aback by C1’s anger then tries to compose them self.
C2:
(takes a deep breath) ok… so you know that sandwich you made for yourself this
morning… you know the one you were going to eat later?
C1:
(confused) yeah?
2. C2:
well… I ate it.
C1:
(calmly) you ate it?
C2:
Yes I ate it and I feel terrible please forgive me!
C1:
It’s a sandwich! I’m not angry you ate my sandwich.
C2:
(confused) You’re not?
C1:
No of course not! It’s a sandwich. It’s not big deal. I’ll just make another one.
C2 looks really relieved.
C2:
Phew! I was really worried that you were going to get angry with me!
C1:
no I’d never get angry with you over something so silly.
C2:
well that’s a relief!
C2 spots the chips C1 has been eating the whole time.
C2:
Ooo chips! I love chips.
C2 reaches out and grabs a very large handful of chips from C1’s bowl as C1
watches in shock. C2 gets up and leaves with a handful of chip leaving C1 with
barely any left. C1 watches C2 in amazement.
C1:
