Part of the series on prayer; emphasis is applied to James 5.16. This is a basic PowerPoint regarding James 5.16. More points and words were spoken than contained in the PowerPoint.
This document discusses how Jesus recognizes different aspects of humanity based on passages from Luke 7. It outlines that Jesus recognizes people's faith in him to heal as described in verses 1-10, recognizes their pain in verses 11-16, recognizes their impatience in verses 17-35, and recognizes their faith in him to forgive as described in verses 36-50.
The document is a sermon about the importance of persistent prayer based on the parable of the persistent widow from Luke 18:1-8. The parable tells of a widow who repeatedly asks an unjust judge for justice against her enemy until he grants it just to end her constant requests. Jesus says that if even the unjust judge will grant justice due to persistence, how much more will God, who is just, grant justice to His people who cry out to Him day and night. The sermon encourages believers to pray persistently and never give up hope that God will answer their prayers.
1. Prayer was established by the Avot (Patriarchs) prior to the Temple period as an informal, individual practice.
2. Prayer is not just a custom but also a mitzvah (commandment), with the essence being the daily "service of the heart" comprising praise, requests, and thanks to God.
3. The Holy Temple was called by the prophet Isaiah "a house of prayer for all nations," and after its destruction, prayer replaced sacrifices and Divine service as the primary means of serving God both personally and nationally.

When we examine the establishment, examples and correction given concerning the Lord’s Supper we understand that our Lord Jesus desires that Christians must partake of the Lord’s supper together on the first day of the week.
The document discusses whether instrumental music in worship is authorized by the Bible. It argues that for worship to be pleasing to God, it must be authorized by scripture. While the Old Testament approved instruments, and instruments may be used in heaven, the New Testament only commands singing and does not mention instruments. It asserts that adding instruments to worship goes beyond what is biblically authorized, and risks disregarding scriptural authority in other matters of religion. The key principle discussed is that worship must be based solely on biblical authority.
This document contains prayers and passages from the Bible used in the Order of Holy Communion. It includes a prayer of confession acknowledging sins and asking for forgiveness. It also includes Jesus' words when instituting the Lord's Supper, commanding believers to eat bread and drink wine in remembrance of him. The Lord's supper was instituted by Jesus before His death, burial, and resurrection. In this lesson we examine when we are to keep the feast and what do the emblems represent to us. Both slides and audio can be enjoyed together at www.cmcoc.org Sermon by: Brian Birdow
1) Jesus teaches that fasting should be done sincerely and privately before God, not for the purpose of being seen by others.
2) Hypocrites fast to appear religious to people by making sad faces, but true fasting is done privately and the face is anointed so it is not obvious.
3) Fasting in the Bible was often linked to prayer, receiving revelation from God, and beginning important tasks, and should be done with a pure heart before God rather than for show.
We must take heed to what we have learned in the past (Heb. 2:1). There is a danger in drifting away from the truth (Heb. 2:2, 3). Therefore, we must be reminded of the things we already know (1 Cor. 4:17).
One thing we need to remind ourselves, and teach to our neighbors, is the basic truth about New Testament Christianity. There is a lot of false teaching out there and people have the wrong concept (Matt. 7:15-20). It is our duty to expose it and teach them the truth (Eph. 5:11).
This lesson will notice that New Testament Christians: (1) Believed in Christ; (2) Submitted to the plan of salvation; (3) Were just Christians; (4) Were not part of any denominations.
The document discusses Jesus' blood and its power to give eternal life. It provides several Bible verses from the books of John, Genesis, 1 Thessalonians, Hebrews, 1 Peter, and Psalms that describe how drinking Jesus' blood and eating his flesh provides everlasting life, allows people to abide in Jesus and Jesus in them, and cleanses and sanctifies people. It emphasizes that Jesus' blood is more powerful than any other sacrifice in providing access to God.

The overall message is that following these tips can restore the joy of prayer to one's life.
This document discusses the importance and benefits of prayer. It provides definitions of what it means to be "prayerful", noting that prayer requires commitment to God and being open to God's will rather than our own. Several biblical passages are presented that teach about prayer, such as Jesus instructing disciples how to pray and the need to pray continually. The document emphasizes that prayer should not be taken lightly and that through persistent prayer, God will provide what we need.

The document discusses Jesus' teachings about money and serving God versus money. It quotes Matthew 6:24 which states that no one can serve two masters, either you will hate one and love the other or be devoted to one and despise the other, and that you cannot serve both God and money. It explains the original Greek meanings of words used. It also provides three steps to build more faith with money: realize you do not need everything but need Jesus, treat others as you want to be treated, and evaluate your use of money through prayer.

Building a Great Congregation Involves FollowersChris Gallagher
This document discusses the importance of great followers in building a great congregation. It notes that without followers, the vision and leadership will fail. Individual followers must know and grow in their knowledge of guidelines from scripture, sacrifice, and work. United followers support each other through prayer, service, finances, and supporting leaders to accomplish God's purpose together. The document encourages self-reflection on how one's following helps or hinders others.
Building a great congregation involves visionChris Gallagher
This document discusses the importance of having a vision for both an individual's life and a congregation. It emphasizes that vision focuses on future possibilities and allows one to take advantage of opportunities. It prompts the reader to consider both personal and congregational goals for the next 20, 10, 5, and 1 years. Maintaining a vision with Heaven as its focus requires unity of purpose among members, courage, faith, and trusting that God will help the congregation grow if members continue to work toward planting and watering.
This lesson was presented as the last sermon in the series on prayer. The purpose is to share three points to assist others in enhancing their prayer life.
This lesson discusses the question, "How comfortable are you as Christian?"
I submit that Jesus did not come to make us comfortable, but to challenge us to grow in our relationships with Him and God as we are blessed with the Spirit.
Jesus made the rich young ruler uncomfortable, are you comfortable in your Christianity?
This is a basic outline, as always, the lesson contained more emphasis.
Building a Great Congregation Involves LeadershipChris Gallagher
This document discusses the importance of leadership in building a great congregation. It notes that leadership requires guidance, counselors, and vision. Jesus exemplified leadership by warning against blind guides. Qualities of good leaders include knowing the vision, purpose, and followers while sympathizing with them and being truthful. Biblical leaders, such as elders, must know, protect, and lead the congregation. The document concludes by asking the reader to consider training future leaders and evaluating current leadership.
The document discusses the power of prayer and the Holy Spirit's role in intercession. In 3 sentences: The Spirit helps us in our weakness by interceding for us through groanings too deep for words. Intercession refers to entreaty or petition made to God on behalf of another. Prayer works for those who love God, as all things work together for good for those called according to God's purpose.
Building a Great Congregation Involves PurposeChris Gallagher
This is the first in a series of sermons regarding building a great congregation no matter the size or the budget.
This particular lesson has to do with the purpose of our lives and our congregations.
This lesson was presented as the last sermon in the series on prayer. The purpose is to share three points to assist others in enhancing their prayer life.
This lesson is part of a Sunday afternoon Bible class dealing with the topic of evangelism and overcoming our fears of evangelism.
The "4 Reasons for Evangelism" are not my own, I had them on a chart from a class at FHU. I had heard them preached many other places as well.
Prayer is described as essential for Christians, like breathing. The document discusses who God hears and answers prayers from, including the righteous, obedient, those who abide in Christ and repent. It encourages dealing with unanswered prayers by continuing to pray, consulting God's will, and considering prayer from God's perspective rather than turning away from Him.
Prayer can be a struggle, but it creates opportunities for change. Through prayer, we attest to our everlasting relationship with God and ask for his revelation, influence, and glory. Prayer is powerful and causes change by bringing us closer to God and allowing him to work in our lives.
Hannah was barren and continually provoked by her husband's other wife, but turned to God in prayer, promising that if He gave her a son she would dedicate him to the Lord. God answered Hannah's prayer, she gave birth to Samuel and fulfilled her promise by bringing him to the tabernacle to serve God as she had vowed. The story of Hannah shows that a mother's prayer to God can be powerful and life-changing.
The document discusses living according to the book of Leviticus despite no longer offering sacrifices or having priests. It notes that while the title refers to the Levites, the book is not just for them. Quick facts provided include that Leviticus is quoted over 15 times in the New Testament and that a key verse calls believers to be holy as God is holy.
The document discusses the responsibilities of spiritual leaders or shepherds. It cites passages from the Bible emphasizing that spiritual leaders must care for the church, which was obtained through Jesus' sacrifice. However, it also warns that false teachers will arise and try to lead people astray. Spiritual leaders are therefore charged with shepherding God's flock and protecting the people from such threats. The document stresses that spiritual shepherds must be ready to make difficult decisions and realize that they will be held accountable for the people under their watch. Ultimately, they are to follow the example of Jesus as the chief Shepherd.
Keeping the family pure from the worldly elements and focus is vital to the spiritual growth of every member of the family. This simple 3 step lessons provides motivation and challenging thoughts to assist in family growth.
This lesson is based on John Maxwell's lesson entitled, "The Law of the Lid." I believe Dr. Maxwell's words are powerful for businesses and the principles have a place in church leadership.
There is an article on the Preacher's Pen regarding this subject.
This document discusses the importance and power of prayer. It notes that God hears prayers and will answer those who call to Him, revealing great and unsearchable things. It states that the greatest tragedy is not unanswered prayer, but prayers that go unoffered. The primary purpose of prayer is not to receive blessings, but to reveal God's truth and allow people to know God more intimately through communication with Him.
This document discusses praying in the Spirit. It begins by saying that as new creations in Christ, believers have access to God the Father and should learn from Jesus's example of prayer. It describes praying in the Spirit as involving: communing with God through the Holy Spirit, praying according to God's will as revealed in scripture, praying in tongues to utter mysteries, and praying in Jesus's name and authority. It emphasizes building an intimate prayer life with Christ through the Spirit in order to pray accurately and powerfully. The document encourages believers to identify hindrances to spiritual prayer and to devote time to praying in tongues each day.
This document provides examples of biblical figures with active prayer lives, including Abraham praying during the judgement of Sodom and Gomorrah, Paul praying for deliverance from hardships, and Jesus teaching his disciples the importance of persistent prayer. It also discusses praying for one's country, church, community, and notes that effective prayer can accomplish much. The document asks if there are any requirements for praying.
God Wants To Refresh You To Refresh Others.Kennedy Liyai
God wants to refresh believers with His living water so that they have the strength and ability to refresh others. The document discusses how Jesus refreshed himself through prayer so he could meet the needs of others, and encourages readers to seek God's will daily and allow Him to work through them to accomplish His purposes and refresh those around them. It also provides a prayer dedicating one's life to serving God and walking in His Spirit.
Dr. vernon secrets of the vine pt 6- make a wish - sunday, may 5th - sermon...shepherdsconnection
Dr. R.A. Vernon gave a sermon on John 15:7 titled "Make A Wish" where he discussed three interpretations of verse 6 and focused on verse 7. He explained that effective prayer comes from abiding in Christ and having His words remain in believers so their prayers conform to God's will. Dr. Vernon closed by encouraging the congregation to abide in Christ's love so their joy may be made full.
What is love? See how love is consummated in the Father, illustrated by the Son and demonstrated in the Spirit. It brings about faith, grace, and works which are all working together in eternal love.
The document discusses the Holy Spirit from several perspectives in brief sections. It addresses who or what the Holy Spirit is, exploring the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit. It examines the work of the Holy Spirit through different ages, in the world, and in the church. It also discusses the baptism, unction, sealing and earnest of the Holy Spirit that believers now experience.
1) Prayer is the strength of Christians and works in many ways such as during difficulties, seeking God's favor, or developing a relationship with God. Through prayer, God listens, answers, and moves in response.
2) The Bible tells Christians to pray continually and for others as well as themselves. Prayer is a way to communicate with God and protects against Satan's deceptions by keeping believers alert.
3) The power of prayer comes from God, not people. God invites people to pray to Him with faith, thanksgiving, and in accordance with His will. He hears prayers and promises to answer according to His perfect timing and will.
This document discusses acceptable prayer in terms of its timing and frequency. It explores biblical perspectives on praying in the morning, evening, and relating to life events. Examples are given of faithful figures like Hannah, David, and Hezekiah who prayed at different times for different purposes. The frequency of prayer is also examined based on passages encouraging praying without ceasing and always. While prayer does not need to be formal, it should involve putting God in our thoughts wherever we are and using it to shape our lives.
This document discusses the power of prayer. It makes several key points:
1) Prayer is one of the greatest powers available to Christians, as exemplified in scripture.
2) Christians are encouraged to pray often and continuously throughout the day, focusing on God and depending on Him.
3) Jesus was the ultimate example of one who prayed often and taught about the principles and importance of prayer.
4) Prayer brings Christians closer to God and each other, and helps maintain the right mindset of dependency on God.
5) God promises to hear and answer prayers according to His will, so Christians should have confidence in prayer's ability to change things.
A Jewish person is expected to pray daily at dawn, morning, noon, afternoon, evening, and nightfall, reciting prayers found in the siddur prayer book. The central prayer is the Shema, which affirms belief in one God, and includes verses from the Torah. Other important prayers include the Amidah, said three times daily, and Birkat HaMazon, the blessing after meals. The Hebrew Scriptures, which the Jewish people revere, consist of the Torah, Prophets, and Writings.
This document discusses Jesus' teachings on prayer from the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 6:5-15. It provides commentary on key verses about praying privately rather than for show, keeping prayers simple rather than using vain repetitions, addressing God as Father, and submitting to God's will. The document also lists prayer requests from various individuals and discusses biblical principles for prayers that God answers, including praying according to God's will, in Jesus' name, with faith, and with the right motives.
The document discusses healing through prayer according to the book of James. It examines James 5:16 which talks about confessing sins to one another and praying for healing. It notes that prayer can bring both spiritual and physical healing. Elijah is given as an example of a righteous man whose prayers were effective. The document stresses that prayer for healing should involve repentance from sin and living according to God's will.
Sermon 18 (final sermon) in a series on the Book of James (this one is on James 5:13-20) presented April 25, 2010, at Palm Desert Church of Christ, by Dale Wells
This lesson was presented at the Gadsden Church of Christ as a result of the Supreme Court decision regarding same sex marriage.

The document provides guidance on how to become a person of prayer. It begins with Jesus' model prayer from the book of Matthew. It then defines prayer as communication with God where one requests things from God, praises God, and addresses God. It encourages meditating on God and prioritizing his word. It advises talking to God daily by sharing problems, thanks, and sins. It suggests connecting with God, daring to pray like Daniel, and praying thankfully, in difficult times, and encouraging others, as Paul did.
This lesson was presented at the Gadsden Church of Christ on March 15th to share the need to reach out to the world. Mathew 14:22-32 as the text. As Jesus reached out to a sinking Peter, we need to reach out to a troubled world.

This document discusses rising to challenges and standing firm in faith. It references several Bible verses about persevering in doing good works. It notes that Elijah stepped up to the challenge from men against God. Finally, it encourages standing fast in principles, getting in God's word, and removing weights and sin.
This lesson is based on the Armor of God spoekn by Paul in Ephesians 6:10-17. The importance is understanding the armor is not loaned, but owned. It must be put on before the battle rages on.
God's definition of good is conformity to his will in order to live with him eternally. Several verses in Romans chapter 8 qualify this, explaining that through the Holy Spirit, believers can realize God's goodness and strengthen their relationship with him. Specifically, the Spirit helps believers, intercedes for them, and those in Christ have God on their side. To experience God's goodness, one should be in Christ, focus their mind on spiritual things, communicate with God in prayer, and live according to his purpose.
This lesson was presented on February 15, 2015 as part of a series on Love. This specifically discusses the situation of the man who fell among robbers and asks the question if we are too busy in our world.

Each habit is accompanied by a brief explanation and biblical references. The habits are presented as effective strategies for Christians to have spiritual conversations based on Jesus' example in John 4.

Planning for a coming year is an important part to success, be an important part of spiritual success as well. The greater question of planning is, "Who will you take with you?"
This document discusses the importance and meaning of work. It provides biblical quotes about work being part of God's plan and how man was created to work. Additional quotes emphasize that work should be done wholeheartedly as for God, that labor deserves wages, and that those unwilling to work should not eat. The document suggests reflecting on what you will do when your work is done and questions about when you will retire or spiritually retire.
David gave his son Solomon final words of advice, challenging him to act responsibly, walk with God, and obey David's commands. A father shows love through discipline, and David disciplined Solomon out of love, just as the Scriptures instruct fathers to admonish their children using spiritual wisdom and knowledge to warn them against foolishness and temptation.
This lesson is the first lesson in the Men's Retreat. The lesson is designed to begin a discussion on setting goals and reaching for the future by changing our current outlook.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
