I come with over 20 years of working experience as an illustrator and graphic designer, starting in Star
Publications in 1994 and now currently freelancing as a Marketeer / Brand Sponsorship consultant / Event
Manager / Social Media Expert / Designer / Photographer and Copywriter. I started dabbling in writing
during my stint with FHM Magazine, culminating in writing for the Malay Mail (part of the News Straits
Times Group in 2006) as a motoring journalist, with the occasional Heavy Metal review or concert report,
gadget and gaming reviews. I can also do food reviews. Another one of my
specialties is writing for defence issues. Eventually I would leave The New Straits Times as Creative
Director serving in the Marketing Department after almost 10 years.
I am also a photographer and don’t count myself an expert in all its various disciplines, but feel my ex-
pertise lies in taking action shots and high society/entertainment photographs too. Product photography
is not one of my strengths but I can take a decent shot of products if need be. I have my own gear and my
own transport too. I am self-reliant and can work with minimal supervision, just point me in the direction
of what needs to be done, and it shall be so.

Highlights: Working on our Digital Edition campaign’s, hard work but was
rewarding. Logo creation (brand creation) - one of my favourite parts of
graphic design.

Highlights: my first attempts at writing. Some writing work in review sections
and my favourite, captioning pics FHM style! Laying out a page on bikes and
of course the GIRLS! I mean this had to be one of the coolest places I’ve ever
had the privilege of working at!

Highlights: Managing 6 labs with Macs with only one other guy.
meanwhile the same number in PC labs had 10 Lab Techs maintaining them.
Proving the Macintosh is the more superior machine once and for all.
When the Chernobyl Virus struck the both of us just sat back and smiled as
10 PC techs had to deal with 300 fried PC’s since the virus targetted the
onboard BIOS chip in those days.

All layout for AutoAd magazine (years before Autotrader came on the market).
Interestingly enough, Alex my boss was approached by the same people that
started Autotrader and asked if he would like to sell. Well, he didn’t.... and
the rest is history as they say. Another place to hone my skills.
Highlights: Turning a black Hyundai Coupe into a yellow one for one of the car
dealer’s ads in the magazine! Also designing the first Mahindra Ad for the
magazine and in Malaysia.

Advertising: Below the line. Places where I cut my teeth learning my trade
especially with such a great mentor as David Tan, Creative and Managing
Director of this small but thriving agency. I learnt the most at this company.
Highlights: My graphic design school of hard knocks. Started to draw less on
papers and work more on the computer with Adobe Illustrator version 4.0!

My first job fresh out of college. I learn that I am NOT God’s gift to graphic
design the hard way. My firt brush with Desktop publishing in the form of an
ancient Apple Color Classic and some Adobe installed PC’s. When I was
in art college, computers were just being introduced and were viewed very
suspiciously by us designer wannabees at the time. These were the heady
days of Quark XPress & Pagemaker and the Bromide!..... hand cutting little
bits of bromide to reposition them on an ad.... not fun.... but u learn to be
patient and how to deal with production people and their eccentricities.
Still did a lot of drawing. A whole lot.....
Highlight: Great Design Team... Made many friends here that would guide my
hands and mind. Lots of good advice, I was lucky to start my first job in such
as establishment.
