This document outlines plans for a Pain Free Programme audit at SGH from January to March 2023. It includes a tentative schedule, the number of registered beds and sample size for audits across 19 disciplines. There will be four types of quality assessments: staff audits, patient audits, doctor implementation audits, and nursing/AMO audits. 23. Principle Management of Chronic Pain
• Avoid pethidine as highly addictive
• Use antineuropathic agent like amitriptyline if neuropathic pain is
suspected
• Avoid NSAIDs / COX2 inhibitors longer than 1-2 weeks – risk of renal
failure and increase CVS risk
• Refer to pain clinic
• Multidisiplinary and multimodal management is the way to go
• Emphasis on self-management for long-term changes (things patient
can do like exercise)
