The Ministry of Finance revoked tax incentives granted to Piaggio Vietnam in 2008 for importing motorcycles. This was based on inspectors determining the investment license from Vinh Phuc province was inconsistent with national taxation policy. As a result, Piaggio Vietnam will have to pay corporate income tax arrears for 2008-2015. Deputy Minister Do Hoang Anh Tuan said the revocation ensures consistent tax policies that encourage manufacturing rather than importing. However, Piaggio Vietnam's production includes both manufacturing and importing. The company requested a new policy starting in 2016 instead of retroactively, but Tuan implied they will have to pay the arrears for past years to maintain consistent policy implementation.
