MOVEMENT
Physical Education 1
What is
MOVEMENT?
Is the act or process of
moving: especially
change of place or
position or posture.
Movement are
analyzed in to
categories:
NON-LOCOMOTOR
OR AXIAL MOVEMENTS
Movement of the body in one
place.
Non-locomotor movements:
Bend
Stretching
Twisting
Swing
Sway
Pulling
Pushing
turning
LOCOMOTOR
Which means moving the
body away in different ways
from one place to another.
The five basic locomotor movements
are:
Walk
Run
Leap
Hop
jump
WALK- advance or
recede on foot in
such manner that
portion of one foot is
always on the
ground.
RUN- move by rapid
steps, faster than
walking.
LEAP- spring or push
off the floor with one
foot and landing on
the other foot from
one place to another.
HOP- spring off the
ground or floor with
one foot and landing
on the same foot in
place.
JUMP- spring off the
ground or floor with
one or both foot and
landing on the same
foot in place.
LOCOMOTOR MOVEMENTS
LEAP- spring or push
off the floor with one
foot and landing on
the other foot from
one place to another.
LOCOMOTOR MOVEMENTS
HOP- spring off the
ground or floor with
one foot and landing
on the same foot in
place.
LOCOMOTOR MOVEMENTS
NON-LOCOMOTOR OR AXIAL MOVEMENTS
BEND- flex or to crook
a joint making it
curves or angular.
STRETCHING-
extending or the
reaching out of the
normal or proper
limits of a joint.
TWISTING- act of
spiraling or
contortion of the
body or parts of the
body.
SWING- move body
part in an arc like a
pendulum.
SWAY- reverse of
swinging.
PULLING- draw toward
self a person or thing
with force.
PUSHING- opposite of
pulling.
TURNING- changing
direction on a fixed
spot, involving the
whole body
BODY MECHANICS
What is BODY
MECHANICS?
Term used to describe
the ways we move
around during daily
activities. It includes
how we stand, sit, lift,
carry, bend, and even
sleep.
What is GOOD POSTURE?
Posture is the position in
which you hold your body
when you sit, stand, or lie
down. Correct posture is a
matter of training, which
means you can teach your
body to hold itself in the
right positions as you sit,
stand and lie down.
What is the importance of
proper Body Mechanics?
It is important to learn the
principles and follow the right
guidelines of proper body
mechanics because it can help
you avoid injury, muscle
fatigue, and degeneration of
spinal structures such as discs
and joints.
PERFORMANCE TASK 1: MOVEMENT
EXERCISES
You are tasked to perform the different locomotor and
non-locomotor movements in an exercise. Create your
own combination of movement, write the combination
on a sheet of paper, then submit as basis for checking.

Skill-Related
Fitness
Skill-related fitness is the capacity to
perform during games and sports. This
level of physical fitness is needed to be
able to perform the more technical
parts of a wide range of sports.
The five components of skill-related
fitness include: agility, balance,
coordination, power, reaction time,
and speed.
Health-Related
Fitness
Exercises that are done with the
intention of improving one's physical
health and maintaining a healthy
lifestyle are included in the concept of
health-related fitness.
The five components of health-related
fitness include: cardiovascular
endurance, muscle strength, muscular
endurance, flexibility, and body
composition.
Balance
Coordination
Balance is the ability to keep your body
in place, whether you're standing still
(static balance) or moving (dynamic
balance). People who do gymnastics,
yoga, and skiing as sports exhibit great
balance.
Coordination is the ability to move in a
way that is smooth, accurate, and under
control. Coordination is a difficult skill that
also requires good balance, strength, and
agility.
Reaction Time
Athletes can be exposed to different
stimuli when they play sports. So,
reaction time is very crucial for any
athlete. Whether a player wins or loses
in a sport is usually decided in a
matter of milliseconds, and it all
depends on how fast the player can
react.
The term "reaction time" refers to the
rate at which an athlete reacts to an
external stimuli.
To be an athlete is
to be precise and
disciplined.
Let's wrap it up! • Speed is the maximum rate at which a
person can move or cover a distance in a
certain amount of time.
• Agility is the capacity to shift or change
the orientation of the body rapidly from
one point to another.
• Balance is the ability to keep your body in
place.
• Coordination is the ability to move in a
way that is smooth, accurate, and under
control.
• Power is the ability to perform one
maximum effort in the shortest possible
time.
• Reaction time refers to the rate at which
an athlete reacts to an external stimuli.
