Raoul confesses his love for Christine at an inn. However, Christine is upset by Raoul's accusations regarding her relationship with her teacher. Raoul reveals that he listened at her door and heard her teacher tell Christine she must love him. As Raoul recounts what he heard, Christine becomes increasingly distressed and cries. She abruptly leaves the inn, leaving Raoul alone.
