It was an early synergy
which led to the success of
the Polidano Group. Built from
the ground up by brothers
Charles and Paul, the original
partnership began in 1977 and
was strengthened in 1987 when
the Group was officially formed.
In those days the brothers
undertook the heavy, manual
workload themselves. But
an early investment in the
best modern machinery and
tools available facilitated the
company’s growth and stood it in
good stead for the construction
boom of the 80s and 90s.
Throughout the years their
focus was consistently on

their staff for the betterment of
the Group as a whole. The 90s
saw the Group diversifying into
several fields and it obtained its
ISO 9002 in 1997. To this day, it is

a one-stop, construction shop
whatever their needs may be.
Over the years Polidano
Group also became a key
player in the hospitality sector,
investing heavily in joint
ventures that provided Malta
with two of its most popular
five-star resorts – the Westin
Dragonara and Le Meridien,
St Julian’s. It now boasts a
portfolio of some of the islands’
largest completed projects
including the Lufthansa
Teknik Facilities, Portomaso,
the Italian Protocol Roads,
the Wasteserv Sant Antnin
Solid Waste Treatment Plant,
the North Sewage Treatment

State-of-the-art machinery
is still considered one of the
backbones of the business

fully automated paver, used

Manufacture of Steel Mesh

With the largest inventory of plants and
machinery across the Maltese Islands, and
well as the largest workforce, Polidano Group
has long been recognised as the leading local

Its in-house laboratory ensures exacting
standards (based on ISO 9002 specifications)
and the use of cutting-edge technology
places it at the forefront of both the
manufacture and construction industries.
Polmesh Ltd is a subsidiary within
Polidano Group. The company
concentrates on the importation of steel
for the construction industry and stocks
and sells rebars that are up to 32mm in
diameter.
Quality is of the essence and
reinforcement mesh and lattice girders
are manufactured using sophisticated,
computer-controlled machinery that
guarantees the highest standards.
Production is at a rate of 600m of
Electroweld Girders 600 and 10 tonnes
of steel mesh per hour.
CONSTRUCTION.
Hot & Cold Asphalt Concrete Batching
Polidano Group is one of the leading
road construction companies in Malta.
Its Asphalt division comprises a vast
underground bitumen storage area
and a fuly computerised plant with a
production capability of 90 tonnes of
hot asphalt per hour.
The materials used are given the
uppermost importance. Polidano Group
is a stakeholder in the company which
imports Bitumen. Aggregate and is
also quarried and crushed at the Lapsi
Quarry, an operation that is wholly
owned by Polidano Group. This material
is then ferried to the plant using a fleet
of Euro3 Mercedes Actros trucks. The
group also owns a variety of pavers of
various capacities which can cater for
the requirements of any job.
Polidano Group is one of the main
suppliers of Ready Mix Concrete on the
island. Constant testing at the in-house,
state-of-the-art laboratory ensures the
product’s uniform quality is upheld,
which is one of the factors contributing
to the ISO 9002 certification.
The production of concrete is not
limited to the normal C10 to C40 standard
mixes. Polidano Group also manufactures:

Materials are delivered to sites by a
22-strong fleet of Mercedes Actros and
Astra vehicles. However for smaller pours
clients can make use of a mini mixer. The
Group recently invested in three concrete
pumps that consolidated its lead position
in the manufacture, supply and delivery
of ready mix concrete.

Hollow Brick Manufacture
Polystyrene
Polidano Group’s brick manufacturing
facility helps to meet the growing demand for
quality hollow brick manufacture. Substantial
investment has already been made to this
division; new machinery has been delivered
and engineers are currently installing it in a
new annex.

Expanded Polystyrene is a closed cell,
thermoplastic, lightweight, rigid cellular plastic
material which begins life as small beads of
resin. The beads are impregnated with the
naturally occurring gas, pentane and then
heated in a pre-expander until they expand to
almost 50 times their original size.
The product has numerous useful properties.
It has low thermal conductivity, and can
therefore be used as an insulator against heat
and cold. Its lightness makes it very easy to
handle. Polystyrene sheets can be manufactured
in any thickness required. It does not, nor has it
ever emitted chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), and is
recyclable.
Prestressed Beams
Locally, Polidano Group boasts the largest facility
that is exclusively dedicated to the production of
prestressed elements. The facility consists of nine
production lines capable of producing 300sqm of
high-quality, prestressed hollow core roofing slabs.
The thicknesses for these hollowcore slabs varies
from 150mm to 460mm. The thickest slab can be
manufactured to lengths of up to 22m, making it
the largest span that can be cast in Malta.
Precast
The Precast division is split into four
specialised production lines, identified as follows:
- Hollow Concrete Pipes
Polidano Group has equipped itself with the
ultimate, large diameter pipe-making machinery
that is able to produce concrete pipes across a
huge range of diameters and lengths. This high-
end technology involves vibrations, generated
by a central vibrator, connected to the core via
a hydraulic clamping device.
The internationally renowned German
company Schlosser Pfeiffer designed and
manufactured the whole production plant
using the latest expertise in electronic control
systems and compacting vibrators. The
extensive automation of this production plant
guarantees the excellent quality of the concrete
elements produced.
The following are the main features and
capabilities available in relation to these
products:

- Paving Blocks
Polidano Group produces interlocking cement
paving blocks, useful for the embellishment of
footpaths, promenades, gardens and pavements.
These blocks are also ideal for an industrial
environment, as demonstrated by the long-
standing agreement between the Group and the
Malta Freeport Terminal.
Currently four type of blocks are in production
and these can precast in a variety of colours.
The use of these blocks is also ideal for
industrial environment. Malta Freeport Terminal
has awarded Polidano Group a long term contract
to manufacture and supply special paving blocks
according to specific standards. These blocks are
designed to withstand heavy traffic.
- Predalles
Predalles are solid reinforced concrete slabs
cast on a vibrating table. The maximum cast
dimensions are 2.4m X 6.0m. They can be used
for roofing, flooring and retaining walls.
A perfect marble-like finish is obtained on the
underside of the cast which makes predalles
economical as no finishing is required. The
use of these slabs speeds up the construction
process as it does away with the need for
shuttering.
- Architectural Elements
The casting of architectural elements is
an important factor in modern construction.
Precast architectural elements manufactured
in a controlled environment ensure the product
delivered is of the highest quality.
Moulds are manufactured by skilled craftsmen
who ensure their design is accurately reproduced
in every casting and guaranteeing a swift
construction process. Elements produced include
sills, lintels, balcony bases, columns, mouldings,
kerbs, gutters, corbels, coping and planters.

EMARINE:
Leader in dredging and barging services.
Our fleet consists of two split hopper
barges, MV Saulus and MV Paulus, Tugboat
MV St.Gabriel and a dipper dredger.
Dipper dredger Magnus consists of two
components, a pontoon that can be partially
lifted out of the water to provide a firm
working platform and an excavating machine.
Its main advantage is its ability to dredge a
wide range of materials, including debris and
soft, weathered or fractured rocks.

Innovation in entertainment
As part of a rational investment and
diversification programme, Polidano
Group has undertaken a number of
new ventures within the leisure and
tourism sector, either wholly-owned,
managed or in partnership.
These investments include the
Westin Dragonara, Le Meridien
St Julians, Riviera Resort, Empire
Cinema and Montekristo Estates.
Montekristo Estates comprises
vineyards, olive groves, winery and
several venues that are suitable for
any kind of activity. Clients vary from
corporate organizations bringing
over their associates to organizers

who require unique settings for their
special occasions.
The latest addition to the group’s
assets is the new Southend Hotel a
forty room boutique hotel which is
due to open in summer 2009.
HOSPITALITY  LEISURE.
Materials
Polidano group is involved in two
joint venture companies which are
the main importers of cement and
Bitumen to Malta, Inter Cement
Limited and Bitumen Distributors
Limited. The group has invested in
storage facilities for these essential
elements and ensures that adequate
supplies are always available.
Quality of materials is constantly
monitored in the in-house ISO
certified laboratory.
Due to the demand of special
mixes that incorporate aggregate,
Polidano Group now imports various
types of aggregates to be able to
produce higher grade products.
IMPORTS.
CORPORATION
Plant and Machinery
Polidano Group is the local appointed agent
for JCB and for Hyundai plant machinery
Our professional sales team ensures that
customers are provided with the best technical
advice so that they are able to select the ideal
plant for their requirements. We also stress
that clients get an excellent after sales service.
Operations
The Air Separation Plant
produces liquid Oxygen and
liquid Nitrogen by cryogenic
distillation of atmospheric air. The
plant was designed and installed
by Cosmodyne USA and is CE
complaint and also meets all the
requirements of the Pressure
Equipment Directive. The oxygen
produced is Medical Grade Oxygen
with a purity level greater than
99.8 % oxygen and falls well within
the EU Pharmacopeial acceptance
criteria. Similarly Nitrogen is
generated at 99.9% purity.
Storage Compound
To ensure a strong market
presence and Customer Service
Guarantee, Poligas Ltd has invested in
a storage compound having an overall
capacity of over 200,000 Liters
for various gases. All the cryogenic
storage tanks are constructed in
stainless steel and fully equipped with
pressure relief valves and measuring
equipment. Ranging in capacities
from 5000 liters to 30,000 liters all
storage tanks are complaint with the
respective EU Standards.
Filling Lines
Equipped with 13 filling units,
each capable of handling 16, high
pressure cylinders at any one
single operation, ensures a filling
capacity of over 10,000 liters of
gas per hour. Two of these filling
units are dedicated for Medical
Oxygen gas, while another such
filling unit is dedicated for Food
Grade Carbon dioxide.
All filling units are of Italian
origin and conform to the following
standards and directives;
i) Directive 89/392/CE
ii) Directive 98/37/CE -11A
iii) 89/336/CE-1
v) 72/23/CE-111

Quality related procedures are
a prerequisite for the success
of Poligas Ltd and in this regard

test equipment. Coupled with Gas
Chromatography analyzers are
a number of paramagnetic and
infrared analyzers which measure
and monitor the chemical and
purity levels of the various pure

gases sector by registering Poligas Ltd and started operations
in this field by late 2005.The Plant and distribution centre at
Poligas Ltd occupy an area of circa 2500 square metres for a

Certification
Poligas Ltd was awarded ISO 9001:2000 certification by
the British Standards Institute in 2006. Falling in line with the
requirements for the manufacture of Pharmaceutical products,
Poligas Ltd is also GMP certified by the Maltese Medicines
Authority and also holds a Marketing Authorization ,by the
same Authority for the production and wholesale distribution of
Medical Oxygen and Nitrogen Low Oxygen. Currently Poligas is in
the process of obtaining HACCP certification.

  • 3. Polidano Group: The Construction Industry Constant It was an early synergy which led to the success of the Polidano Group. Built from the ground up by brothers Charles and Paul, the original partnership began in 1977 and was strengthened in 1987 when the Group was officially formed. In those days the brothers undertook the heavy, manual workload themselves. But an early investment in the best modern machinery and tools available facilitated the company’s growth and stood it in good stead for the construction boom of the 80s and 90s. Throughout the years their focus was consistently on efficiency, cost effectiveness, excellence and innovation. The brothers also fostered strong teams of employees, believing in and encouraging the potential of their staff for the betterment of the Group as a whole. The 90s saw the Group diversifying into several fields and it obtained its ISO 9002 in 1997. To this day, it is the only company offering clients a one-stop, construction shop whatever their needs may be. Over the years Polidano Group also became a key player in the hospitality sector, investing heavily in joint ventures that provided Malta with two of its most popular five-star resorts – the Westin Dragonara and Le Meridien, St Julian’s. It now boasts a portfolio of some of the islands’ largest completed projects including the Lufthansa Teknik Facilities, Portomaso, the Italian Protocol Roads, the Wasteserv Sant Antnin Solid Waste Treatment Plant, the North Sewage Treatment Plant, the Malta Freeport Terminal 1 Extension and the Intercontinental Hotel. State-of-the-art machinery is still considered one of the backbones of the business and new investments are ongoing with the latest, a fully automated paver, used during the construction of the Lufthansa Teknik. OVERVIEW: Combining technology, innovation and expertise Manufacture of Steel Mesh & Fabrication of Rebar Structures With the largest inventory of plants and machinery across the Maltese Islands, and well as the largest workforce, Polidano Group has long been recognised as the leading local construction company. Its in-house laboratory ensures exacting standards (based on ISO 9002 specifications) and the use of cutting-edge technology places it at the forefront of both the manufacture and construction industries. Polmesh Ltd is a subsidiary within Polidano Group. The company concentrates on the importation of steel for the construction industry and stocks and sells rebars that are up to 32mm in diameter. Quality is of the essence and reinforcement mesh and lattice girders are manufactured using sophisticated, computer-controlled machinery that guarantees the highest standards. Production is at a rate of 600m of Electroweld Girders 600 and 10 tonnes of steel mesh per hour. CONSTRUCTION.
  • 5. Hot & Cold Asphalt Concrete Batching Polidano Group is one of the leading road construction companies in Malta. Its Asphalt division comprises a vast underground bitumen storage area and a fuly computerised plant with a production capability of 90 tonnes of hot asphalt per hour. The materials used are given the uppermost importance. Polidano Group is a stakeholder in the company which imports Bitumen. Aggregate and is also quarried and crushed at the Lapsi Quarry, an operation that is wholly owned by Polidano Group. This material is then ferried to the plant using a fleet of Euro3 Mercedes Actros trucks. The group also owns a variety of pavers of various capacities which can cater for the requirements of any job. Polidano Group is one of the main suppliers of Ready Mix Concrete on the island. Constant testing at the in-house, state-of-the-art laboratory ensures the product’s uniform quality is upheld, which is one of the factors contributing to the ISO 9002 certification. The production of concrete is not limited to the normal C10 to C40 standard mixes. Polidano Group also manufactures: SPECIAL MIXES Light-weight Concrete – C37 Dolomite mix Grouts Dry and Semi-dry Mixes Other specialised concrete mixes can be supplied after consultation with the engineer in charge. These are first verified by trial mixes at our Concrete Laboratory. ADMIXTURES Retarder Super Plasticizer Waterproofer Accelerator Sulphate Resistant Admixture Air entraining CEMENT TYPES Ordinary Portland Cement grade 42.5R Sulphate Resistant Cement PIGMENTS Red Terracotta Yellow Green OTHER ADDITIVES Fibremesh Steel Fibres Polysterene Materials are delivered to sites by a 22-strong fleet of Mercedes Actros and Astra vehicles. However for smaller pours clients can make use of a mini mixer. The Group recently invested in three concrete pumps that consolidated its lead position in the manufacture, supply and delivery of ready mix concrete.
  • 6. CONSTRUCTION... Hollow Brick Manufacture Polystyrene Polidano Group’s brick manufacturing facility helps to meet the growing demand for quality hollow brick manufacture. Substantial investment has already been made to this division; new machinery has been delivered and engineers are currently installing it in a new annex. Current production: 9 inch double type bricks 6,000 9 inch single type bricks 7,000 6 or 7 inch type bricks 9,000 4 inch type bricks 12,000 Expanded Polystyrene is a closed cell, thermoplastic, lightweight, rigid cellular plastic material which begins life as small beads of resin. The beads are impregnated with the naturally occurring gas, pentane and then heated in a pre-expander until they expand to almost 50 times their original size. The product has numerous useful properties. It has low thermal conductivity, and can therefore be used as an insulator against heat and cold. Its lightness makes it very easy to handle. Polystyrene sheets can be manufactured in any thickness required. It does not, nor has it ever emitted chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), and is recyclable.
  • 7. Prestressed Beams Locally, Polidano Group boasts the largest facility that is exclusively dedicated to the production of prestressed elements. The facility consists of nine production lines capable of producing 300sqm of high-quality, prestressed hollow core roofing slabs. The thicknesses for these hollowcore slabs varies from 150mm to 460mm. The thickest slab can be manufactured to lengths of up to 22m, making it the largest span that can be cast in Malta. Precast The Precast division is split into four specialised production lines, identified as follows: - Hollow Concrete Pipes Polidano Group has equipped itself with the ultimate, large diameter pipe-making machinery that is able to produce concrete pipes across a huge range of diameters and lengths. This high- end technology involves vibrations, generated by a central vibrator, connected to the core via a hydraulic clamping device. The internationally renowned German company Schlosser Pfeiffer designed and manufactured the whole production plant using the latest expertise in electronic control systems and compacting vibrators. The extensive automation of this production plant guarantees the excellent quality of the concrete elements produced. The following are the main features and capabilities available in relation to these products: • Internal diameter sizes produced: 300mm, 400mm, 600, 800mm and 1000mm • Production capacity of pipe length: 2.5m • Highly versatile product production range • Highly compacted pipes independent on product sizes and product quantity, as well as pipes with an inner lining • Inner rubber seals as part of the pipe cast • Optional internal coating • The supply of high quantity lubricants for seals • Optional concrete colouring • On-site advice and consultancy. - Paving Blocks Polidano Group produces interlocking cement paving blocks, useful for the embellishment of footpaths, promenades, gardens and pavements. These blocks are also ideal for an industrial environment, as demonstrated by the long- standing agreement between the Group and the Malta Freeport Terminal. Currently four type of blocks are in production and these can precast in a variety of colours. The use of these blocks is also ideal for industrial environment. Malta Freeport Terminal has awarded Polidano Group a long term contract to manufacture and supply special paving blocks according to specific standards. These blocks are designed to withstand heavy traffic. - Predalles Predalles are solid reinforced concrete slabs cast on a vibrating table. The maximum cast dimensions are 2.4m X 6.0m. They can be used for roofing, flooring and retaining walls. A perfect marble-like finish is obtained on the underside of the cast which makes predalles economical as no finishing is required. The use of these slabs speeds up the construction process as it does away with the need for shuttering. - Architectural Elements The casting of architectural elements is an important factor in modern construction. Precast architectural elements manufactured in a controlled environment ensure the product delivered is of the highest quality. Moulds are manufactured by skilled craftsmen who ensure their design is accurately reproduced in every casting and guaranteeing a swift construction process. Elements produced include sills, lintels, balcony bases, columns, mouldings, kerbs, gutters, corbels, coping and planters.

  • 10. EMARINE: Leader in dredging and barging services. Our fleet consists of two split hopper barges, MV Saulus and MV Paulus, Tugboat MV St.Gabriel and a dipper dredger. Dipper dredger Magnus consists of two components, a pontoon that can be partially lifted out of the water to provide a firm working platform and an excavating machine. DIVERSIFICATION: Innovation in entertainment As part of a rational investment and diversification programme, Polidano Group has undertaken a number of new ventures within the leisure and tourism sector, either wholly-owned, managed or in partnership. These investments include the Westin Dragonara, Le Meridien St Julians, Riviera Resort, Empire Cinema and Montekristo Estates. Montekristo Estates comprises vineyards, olive groves, winery and several venues that are suitable for any kind of activity.   • 14. Materials Polidano group is involved in two joint venture companies which are the main importers of cement and Bitumen to Malta, Inter Cement Limited and Bitumen Distributors Limited. The group has invested in storage facilities for these essential elements and ensures that adequate supplies are always available. Quality of materials is constantly monitored in the in-house ISO certified laboratory. Due to the demand of special mixes that incorporate aggregate, Polidano Group now imports various types of aggregates to be able to produce higher grade products. IMPORTS.   • 15. Operations The Air Separation Plant produces liquid Oxygen and liquid Nitrogen by cryogenic distillation of atmospheric air. The plant was designed and installed by Cosmodyne USA and is CE complaint and also meets all the requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive. The oxygen produced is Medical Grade Oxygen with a purity level greater than 99.8 % oxygen and falls well within the EU Pharmacopeial acceptance criteria. Similarly Nitrogen is generated at 99.9% purity. Storage Compound To ensure a strong market presence and Customer Service Guarantee, Poligas Ltd has invested in a storage compound having an overall capacity of over 200,000 Liters for various gases. All the cryogenic storage tanks are constructed in stainless steel and fully equipped with pressure relief valves and measuring equipment. Ranging in capacities from 5000 liters to 30,000 liters all storage tanks are complaint with the respective EU Standards. Filling Lines Equipped with 13 filling units, each capable of handling 16, high pressure cylinders at any one single operation, ensures a filling capacity of over 10,000 liters of gas per hour. Two of these filling units are dedicated for Medical Oxygen gas, while another such filling unit is dedicated for Food Grade Carbon dioxide. All filling units are of Italian origin and conform to the following standards and directives; i) Directive 89/392/CE ii) Directive 98/37/CE -11A iii) 89/336/CE-1 v) 72/23/CE-111 Laboratory and testing Facilities Foremost on the company.s policy list are the quality aspects of all operations carried out at Poligas Ltd. Testing and Quality related procedures are a prerequisite for the success of Poligas Ltd and in this regard the company shareholders have invested heavily in state of the art test equipment. Coupled with Gas Chromatography analyzers are a number of paramagnetic and infrared analyzers which measure and monitor the chemical and purity levels of the various pure gases and gas mixes. POLIGAS: Customer Service guaranteed. In October 2004,the group set up the Technical and Pure gases sector by registering Poligas Ltd and started operations in this field by late 2005.The Plant and distribution centre at Poligas Ltd occupy an area of circa 2500 square metres for a total investment of over € 7 million. GAS. Product list The Poligas list of products is constantly evolving to reflect client requirements and to meet new emerging trends. Whist the number of pure gases might be seen to be few in number, various gas mixes in different proportions and purity levels make our product list too lengthy to include in full. However, a shortlist of products below serves to explain our potential for new products; Pure Gases Gas Mixes Medical Oxygen Argonite (50% Ar 50% N2) Carbon Dioxide Atal (85% Ar 25%CO2) Hydrogen Food Mix 1 (70% CO2 30% N2) Nitrogen Formigas (90%N2 10% H) Argon Food Mix 2 (80% O2 20% CO2) Helium Helium/Argon (10% He 90% Ar) Certification Poligas Ltd was awarded ISO 9001:2000 certification by the British Standards Institute in 2006. Falling in line with the requirements for the manufacture of Pharmaceutical products, Poligas Ltd is also GMP certified by the Maltese Medicines Authority and also holds a Marketing Authorization ,by the same Authority for the production and wholesale distribution of Medical Oxygen and Nitrogen Low Oxygen. Currently Poligas is in the process of obtaining HACCP certification.
