Manufacture of Steel Mesh

machinery across the Maltese Islands, and

Polmesh Ltd is a subsidiary within
Polidano Group. The company
concentrates on the importation of steel
for the construction industry and stocks
and sells rebars that are up to 32mm in

reinforcement mesh and lattice girders
are manufactured using sophisticated,
computer-controlled machinery that
guarantees the highest standards.
Production is at a rate of 600m of
Electroweld Girders 600 and 10 tonnes
of steel mesh per hour.
CONSTRUCTION.
5. Hot & Cold Asphalt Concrete Batching
Polidano Group is one of the leading
road construction companies in Malta.
Its Asphalt division comprises a vast
underground bitumen storage area
and a fuly computerised plant with a
production capability of 90 tonnes of
hot asphalt per hour.
The materials used are given the
uppermost importance. Polidano Group
is a stakeholder in the company which
imports Bitumen. Aggregate and is
also quarried and crushed at the Lapsi
Quarry, an operation that is wholly
owned by Polidano Group. This material
is then ferried to the plant using a fleet
of Euro3 Mercedes Actros trucks. The
group also owns a variety of pavers of
various capacities which can cater for
the requirements of any job.
Polidano Group is one of the main
suppliers of Ready Mix Concrete on the
island. Constant testing at the in-house,
state-of-the-art laboratory ensures the
product’s uniform quality is upheld,
which is one of the factors contributing
to the ISO 9002 certification.
The production of concrete is not
limited to the normal C10 to C40 standard
mixes. Polidano Group also manufactures:

22-strong fleet of Mercedes Actros and
Astra vehicles. However for smaller pours
clients can make use of a mini mixer. The
Group recently invested in three concrete
pumps that consolidated its lead position
in the manufacture, supply and delivery
of ready mix concrete.
6. CONSTRUCTION...
Hollow Brick Manufacture
Polystyrene
Polidano Group’s brick manufacturing
facility helps to meet the growing demand for
quality hollow brick manufacture. Substantial
investment has already been made to this
division; new machinery has been delivered
and engineers are currently installing it in a
new annex.

Expanded Polystyrene is a closed cell,
thermoplastic, lightweight, rigid cellular plastic
material which begins life as small beads of
resin. The beads are impregnated with the
naturally occurring gas, pentane and then
heated in a pre-expander until they expand to
almost 50 times their original size.
The product has numerous useful properties.
It has low thermal conductivity, and can
therefore be used as an insulator against heat
and cold. Its lightness makes it very easy to
handle. Polystyrene sheets can be manufactured
in any thickness required. It does not, nor has it
ever emitted chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), and is
recyclable.
7. Prestressed Beams
Locally, Polidano Group boasts the largest facility
that is exclusively dedicated to the production of
prestressed elements. The facility consists of nine
production lines capable of producing 300sqm of
high-quality, prestressed hollow core roofing slabs.
The thicknesses for these hollowcore slabs varies
from 150mm to 460mm. The thickest slab can be
manufactured to lengths of up to 22m, making it
the largest span that can be cast in Malta.
Precast
The Precast division is split into four
specialised production lines, identified as follows:
- Hollow Concrete Pipes
Polidano Group has equipped itself with the
ultimate, large diameter pipe-making machinery
that is able to produce concrete pipes across a
huge range of diameters and lengths. This high-
end technology involves vibrations, generated
by a central vibrator, connected to the core via
a hydraulic clamping device.
The internationally renowned German
company Schlosser Pfeiffer designed and
manufactured the whole production plant
using the latest expertise in electronic control
systems and compacting vibrators. The
extensive automation of this production plant
guarantees the excellent quality of the concrete
elements produced.

- Paving Blocks
Polidano Group produces interlocking cement
paving blocks, useful for the embellishment of
footpaths, promenades, gardens and pavements.
These blocks are also ideal for an industrial
environment, as demonstrated by the long-
standing agreement between the Group and the
Malta Freeport Terminal.
Currently four type of blocks are in production
and these can precast in a variety of colours.
The use of these blocks is also ideal for
industrial environment. Malta Freeport Terminal
has awarded Polidano Group a long term contract
to manufacture and supply special paving blocks
according to specific standards. These blocks are
designed to withstand heavy traffic.
- Predalles
Predalles are solid reinforced concrete slabs
cast on a vibrating table. The maximum cast
dimensions are 2.4m X 6.0m. They can be used
for roofing, flooring and retaining walls.
A perfect marble-like finish is obtained on the
underside of the cast which makes predalles
economical as no finishing is required. The
use of these slabs speeds up the construction
process as it does away with the need for
shuttering.
- Architectural Elements
The casting of architectural elements is
an important factor in modern construction.
Precast architectural elements manufactured
in a controlled environment ensure the product
delivered is of the highest quality.
Moulds are manufactured by skilled craftsmen
who ensure their design is accurately reproduced
in every casting and guaranteeing a swift
construction process. Elements produced include
sills, lintels, balcony bases, columns, mouldings,
kerbs, gutters, corbels, coping and planters.

Leader in dredging and barging services.
Our fleet consists of two split hopper
barges, MV Saulus and MV Paulus, Tugboat
MV St.Gabriel and a dipper dredger.
Dipper dredger Magnus consists of two
components, a pontoon that can be partially
lifted out of the water to provide a firm
working platform and an excavating machine.
Its main advantage is its ability to dredge a
wide range of materials, including debris and
soft, weathered or fractured rocks.

15. Operations
The Air Separation Plant
produces liquid Oxygen and
liquid Nitrogen by cryogenic
distillation of atmospheric air. The
plant was designed and installed
by Cosmodyne USA and is CE
complaint and also meets all the
requirements of the Pressure
Equipment Directive. The oxygen
produced is Medical Grade Oxygen
with a purity level greater than
99.8 % oxygen and falls well within
the EU Pharmacopeial acceptance
criteria. Similarly Nitrogen is
generated at 99.9% purity.
Storage Compound
To ensure a strong market
presence and Customer Service
Guarantee, Poligas Ltd has invested in
a storage compound having an overall
capacity of over 200,000 Liters
for various gases. All the cryogenic
storage tanks are constructed in
stainless steel and fully equipped with
pressure relief valves and measuring
equipment. Ranging in capacities
from 5000 liters to 30,000 liters all
storage tanks are complaint with the
respective EU Standards.
Filling Lines
Equipped with 13 filling units,
each capable of handling 16, high
pressure cylinders at any one
single operation, ensures a filling
capacity of over 10,000 liters of
gas per hour. Two of these filling
units are dedicated for Medical
Oxygen gas, while another such
filling unit is dedicated for Food
Grade Carbon dioxide.

origin and conform to the following
