This document discusses health-related physical fitness testing. It defines physical fitness and health-related fitness. The four main components of health-related fitness that are assessed are cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition. Several common tests are described that measure these components, including the heart rate assessment, 3-minute step test, waist-to-hip ratio, modified sit-and-reach, 1-minute curl-up test, and 1-minute push-up test. The document also provides a brief history of basketball, describing its invention and some basic basketball skills.
4. Fitness
-is the state or condition of being
fit; suitability or appropriateness.
-an individual has enough
energy to avoid fatigue and
enjoy life.
5. PHYSICAL FITNESS
-is the ability of an individual to
perform task successfully,
effectively, and efficiently
without undue fatigue but with
extra reserved in case of
emergency. It is the ability to
perform something without
feel of exhaustion.
7. Physical Fitness Testing
-is designed to examine,
measure, and evaluate one's
ability, capacity, and capability
to perform task well with respect
to health-related and skill-related
components of physical fitness.
Each component comprises of
several test and specific testing
protocols.
10. -it helps to determine the proper coordination of the
heart and lungs in terms of delivering the oxygen to
the body and nutrients to tissues as well as removing
wastes out of the body
11. is defined as the ability of
muscle to exert one
maximal force against a
resistance (Robbins, Power
and Burgess, 2002). This is
characterized by short
duration and high intensity
efforts such as lifting a 100
lbs. weight at one time.
is defined as the ability of the
muscle to exert repeated
force against a resistance or
to sustain a muscular
contraction (Robbins, Powers
and Burgess, 2002). This may
be characterized by activities
of low intensity and with a
longer duration such as push-
ups and sit-ups.
12. -is defined as the movement of a joint through a
full range of motion (ROM) (Robbins, Power and
Burgess, 2002). An adequate degree of flexibility
is important to prevent injury and to maintain
body mobility. It can be greatly improved by
stretching.
13. -is the amount of body fat in proportion t fat-free
weight (Robbins, Powers and Burgess, 2002). It refers
to the ratio between body fat and lean body mass
that is a much better gauge in determining fatness
compared to body weight alone.
14. Heart Rate Assessment
This test helps specifically
to assess whether students
in physical education classes
have exercised in the
appropriate heart rate zones to
achieve a training effect for
cardiovascular endurance, one
of the components of health-
related fitness.
15. 3-Minute Step Test
A test of cardiovascular
system during a
simultaneous up and
down movement in 3
minutes duration to a
specific high
measurement.
16.
17. Waist-to-Hip Ratio
(WHR) refers to the
percentage of fat at the
abdominal area/region. A
high percentage of fat in this
region is associated with an
increased risk of heart
disease or hypertension.
18. Modified Sit & Reach
The sit and reach
test are the most common of all
flexibility tests. It measures the
flexibility of the client’s lower
back and hamstrings. All you
need is a box about 30cm high
and a meter ruler. Your client
should sit on the floor with their
back and head against a wall.
19. 1-Minute Curl-up Test
is a basic fitness test used by
coaches, trainers, teachers,
and athletes to assess upper
body fitness specifically the
abdominal muscle strength,
and to monitor progress
during strength and fitness
training.
20. 1-Minute Push-up Test
is a basic fitness test used by coaches,
trainers, teachers, and athletes to
assess upper body fitness specifically
the arm muscle strength, and to
monitor progress during strength and
fitness training.
24. HISTORY OF BASKETBALL
Basketball is a team sport played by two teams of five players on a
rectangular court. The objective is to shoot a ball through a hoop
18 inches (46 cm) in diameter and mounted at a height of 10 feet
(3.048 m) to backboards at each end of the court.
The game was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith, who
would be the first basketball coach of the Kansas Jayhawks, one
of the most successful programs in the game's history. James
Naismith (November 6, 1861 – November 28, 1939) was a
Canadian-American physical educator, physician, chaplain, sports
coach and innovator.
