To whom it may concern:
First of all, let me thank you for your time. I am well aware that few of us have “spare” time and every
moment has its own intrinsic value. With that acknowledgment aside, I can assure you that investing in
Pauline Fontanaud is something that will yield great return. She has proven, time and time again, to be
dedicated, thorough, timely, intelligent, and personable. I had the absolute privilege of being Fontanaud’s
editor during her stay at the Coyote Chronicle.
She was not only one of the top writers of my section, but a consistent standout in the class throughout the
quarter. She wrote with wit and charisma that was innate in origin; everything she had to learn was
effortlessly absorbed and refined with aplomb. Despite consistently displaying a genuine level of
expertise, the Coyote Chronicle supervisor, who shall not be named, doubted her abilities and, while he
never verbally expressed these doubts, failed to treat her with the same respect and attention as the other
students. Personally, I believe the situation to be an issue of discrimination on his part. To my
understanding, English is a second language for Ms. Fontanaud and she speaks with an accent; therefore,
to his calculations, she must be incapable of performing at the exemplary level she did.
He was and is dead wrong. It had gotten to the point where I was infuriated with the supervisor and
wished to confront him publically. Ms. Fontanaud calmed me down, ultimately saving me from
potentially losing my position. That day, along with turning in a glowing article, she displayed a level of
maturity and professionalism that I, still to this day, aspire to.
Anyway, as a newspaper editor, I am often asked by students for a letter of recommendation; for many,
there is little I can say and have often denied the request. With Ms. Fontanuad, there is no hesitation.
Wherever Ms. Fontanaud goes, be it writing, publishing, or whatever she has set sight on, she will
flourish and those who take her in their fold will reap the rewards of an outstanding investment.
Sincerely,
Emmanuel Gutierrez
