It’s been a tough
week-and-a-half for
Sam Coit, Reagan Ing-
stad and eighth-place
Hi-Liner volleyball,
whose standing reflects
just how competitive
their matches are.
Coit and Ingstad both
went for 15 assists and
eight digs in a Vol-
ley for a Cure and Dig
Pink Night campaign to
avenge Sept. 4’s 3-0 (18-
25, 17-25, 20-25) loss at
fifth-place Fargo North
Tuesday, but Spar-
tan sophomore 5-foot,
9-inch outside hitter
Alexis Bachmeier’s 18
kills and four blocks
and 5-foot, 6-inch junior
libero Kalli Baarstad’s
19 digs gave North the
3-1 (25-16, 25-16, 15-25,
25-19) season sweep.
Valley City went 2-3
at Oct. 10-11’s Fargo In-
vite, falling 2-0 (16-25,
16-25) to Jamestown
and defeating Wahpeton
2-1 (25-14, 18-25, 15-10)
on the first day before
beating Devils Lake 2-0
(26-24, 28-26), and fall-
ing 2-0 (15-25, 18-25)
to West Fargo Sheyenne
and 2-0 (20-25, 20-25) to
Mandan on the second.
Second-place Fargo
Davies handed the Hi-
Liners a painful 3-2 (18-
25, 25-22, 24-26, 26-24,
25-17 road loss on Oct.
14.
Claire Olson’s four
center-net kills in Tues-
day’s first set helped
turn a 2-2 tie into a 5-2
Hi-Liner lead, and Bren-
na Dieterle’s pair of kills
pushed it to 13-11, but
North 5-foot, 7-inch se-
nior outside hitter Tori
Reinholz’s four aces
helped North tie it up
at 13-13, lead 22-16 and
win, 25-16.
Spartan 5-foot, 8-inch
junior middle hitter
Lacie Johnson, Reinholz
and 5-foot, 11-inch se-
nior middle hitter Beth
Podoll bullied shorter
Hi-Liner defenders atop
the net in Set 2 and led
9-3. Olson smacked
three kills as Valley City
tightened up, but North
won it, 25-16.
Valley City led 10-5
and 19-13 in Set 3 with
improved defensive
communication, and se-
cured a 25-15 answer.
North looked to end the
nonsense in Set 4 and,
though they led only 8-3
and 21-15, Reinholt’s ace
to shallow center put the
Hi-Liners away, 25-19.
Olson put up 16 kills
and three blocks, Bekah
Peterson 10 digs, six kills
and three aces, Charlotte
Huschka 13 digs, Ellie
Winter five kills, an ace
and a block.
Valley City (5-11 EDC,
18-13 overall) can make
up plenty of ground as
they head to fourth-
place Fargo South (11-4
EDC, 16-9 overall) for
Thursday’s contest, host
ninth-place Grand Forks
Central (1-15 EDC, 3-24
overall) on Oct. 28, host
current eighth-place
Devils Lake (4-11, 9-16)
on Oct. 30 and complete
the regular season at
last-place Wahpeton (0-
16 EDC, 2-24 overall) on
Nov. 4, each at 7 p.m.
