The document discusses several open source network monitoring systems (NMS), including Cacti, Nagios, OpManager, EtherApe, and MultiPing. Cacti creates graphs using RRDtool and a MySQL backend. Nagios offers monitoring, alerting, and remote plugin execution for servers and services. OpManager monitors network infrastructure via SNMP, WMI, and CLI across multiple sites. EtherApe graphically displays network activity at the link, IP, and TCP layers. MultiPing monitors uptime and performance of TCP/IP hosts. All of these tools integrate SNMP to collect device information.
