acquainted with
stress: that heavy fog that hangs
over you; the anxiety that wells up
as the weekend draws to a close.
Fromtheconstanttravelthatmakes

But because you’re an executive,
you hold it in. After all, executives
live off of thin air and adrenaline

Your accommodation will be one
of the 86 well-appointed suites
and villas, comprising spacious
bedrooms and stone bathrooms,
and amenities including a full range
of Alila products. But the best
feature by far is the balcony that
opens onto breathtaking views.
The real luxury of this place is
the raw, extensive beauty that
Alila Jabal Akhdar
A 45-minute flight to Muscat,
and a scenic two-hour drive, will
bring you to the mountain retreat
of Alila Jabal Akhdar, a discreet
luxury resort designed to be in
harmony with the surrounding
environment.
Taking inspiration from ancient
forts and incorporating traditional
Omani stone construction
techniques, the structure blends
into the natural beauty of the Al
Hajar Mountains. Your first glance
may leave you underwhelmed,
but you’ll soon recognise the true
beauty of this escape.
The theme here is natural and
understated:darkwoodfurnishings,
neutral tones, and minimal-but-
tasteful décor. Stepping into the
lobby is like being in a ski chalet,
completewithlargecentralfireplace
and wooden beams above.
Prior to our trip, we were sent a
lifestyle concierge survey which
allowed us to specify everything
from preferred pillow type to how
we’d like our fridge stocked. It’s the
perfect way to ensure each guest
is completely accommodated
from the moment they set foot in
the resort.

I think back to the days when I
used to sleep with my laptop by
my side, spend Friday nights in
the office, and holiday with my
phone permanently to my ear. My
priority was being significant at
work, but before I knew it, I was
becoming insignificant in life. My
passion had become my personal
pain. That was when I knew things

can you accomplish when you’re a
broken shell? Having interviewed a
number of world-class executives,
I’ve discovered that those under the
greatest stress, but who also have
the greatest clarity, make space
and time for themselves. It doesn’t
require a huge lifestyle change. You
just need to find and grab those
moments where you can unwind,
recharge, and reset.
On that note, we’re introducing
three stunning luxury venues
in Oman, all within a few hours’
drive or a short flight from Dubai;
close enough to fit into any busy

to remove you from your stressors.
A trip to Spa Alila will rejuvenate
you with Asian-inspired therapies
and ancient techniques. The
massages are phenomenal, or try
the ‘Mystical Mountain Sunrise’
experience which starts with
soothing sunrise tai chi, followed
by breakfast and three hours
of therapies.
If you prefer to sweat out your
stress, the gym is equipped with
state-of-the-art equipment and an
incredible view. Or embark on an
Alila Experience, such as the gentle
8km ‘discovery trail’ hike or the
more challenging ‘adventure trek’.

The Chedi is one of the longest-
standing 5-star hotels in Muscat,
spread over 21 acres. Despite
its proximity to the airport, it
manages to feel just far enough
away. On entering the domed
lobby, you’ll be greeted with
refreshments, cold towels and
the fragrance of frankincense. The
style of the resort – a mixture of
Omani architecture and Asian Zen-
style – is immediately noticeable:
a perfectly positioned black urn
lines up with a manicured green
lawn; the hedges are meticulously
trimmed, and strategically aligned
palm trees gently guide you to a
clear blue ocean.
A stay in the standard queen-
sized Serai room is adequate for
those who plan on spending most
of their time outside the room, but
if you’re here to unwind fully, it’s
worth upgrading to a Club Suite.
More than twice the size of the
regular rooms, these free-standing
suites come with exclusive access
to The Club Lounge where you
can enjoy afternoon tea or light
evening refreshments.
Spotless wooden floors, a king-
size bed with crisp white linens,
a terrazzo sunken bathtub –

body and soul, try a session of
Hatha yoga.
The spa is based on the holistic
principles of aromatherapy,
Ayurveda, and herbalism, with 13
self-contained luxury suites. Try the
signature Chedi Oriental Ritual, a
two-and-a-half hour treatment
starting with an aromatherapy
foot polish followed by The Chedi
Jade Massage.
The Chedi is the ideal retreat for
those who appreciate understated
elegance and a calming, Zen
atmosphere.
Executives will find plenty of

business if you don’t want to switch

Six Senses Zighy Bay perfectly
embodies The Caviar Spoon’s
strapline that “indulgence isn’t a
dirty word”. This glorious haven
is nestled within the natural
beauty of Oman’s Musandam
Peninsula, only a two-and-a-
half hour drive from the hustle
and bustle of Dubai. Rooted in
the school of sustainability, the
focus is on blending into the
environment and building on
the luxury of nature. Six Senses
Zighy Bay is high-end but not
in the typical 5-star fashion; it is
impeccably designed but with an
understated sophistication that
creates an eco-friendly vibe.
The property is home to 80
private pool suites, two retreats,
and a the largest private reserve
in the Middle East, with its four
bedrooms, 17-metre pool and
live-in butler. The two retreats
are equally jaw-dropping with
an in-villa gym and spa and sun

Six Senses Zighy Bay
The food is phenomenal. The
ultimate experience can be
found at Sense on the Edge, the
mountaintop restaurant with
tasting menus served against a
stunning backdrop. Heading up
the kitchen is Chef de Cuisine
Ron McKinlay, who trained under
Michelin-star Chef Tom Kitchin
and ran the kitchen at (two
hats) Melbourne restaurant
Saint Crispin.
Chef McKinlay’s global
experience and talent comes
out in the menu, with dishes
such as goat tartare with kabsa
spice, goat cheese, beetroot,
horseradish, and charcoal, and
milk-fed lamb with caramelised
yogurt, aubergine, basil, and
whipped ricotta. Your senses will
be stimulated and delighted.

and a sauna and steam room in
both changing rooms. Immerse
yourself in treatments such
as a Balinese massage or the
three-hour Wonders of Oman
cleansing journey. The Sense
of Oman programme runs for
three or five days and allows you
to experience treatments that
integrate the local environment,
customs, and traditions, while the
Six Senses Integrated Wellness
programme includes a full
wellness screening.
Here you’ll get a full report of
your health stats, from standard
BMI and blood pressure to stress
levels and oxygen distribution,
along with advice on how
to improve your fitness. An
upcoming initiative called the
Six Senses Sleep programme
will include a consultation with a
Sleep Ambassador.

Our 48 hours were spent in
a one-bedroom suite which
was sensational in its own
right. Simple design elements,
such as the stone floors and
whitewashed walls, create a
peaceful haven that feels remote
– despite the super-fast wifi that
connects you to the outside
world. Amenities are bountiful
with Six Senses bath and body
products and an outdoor shower
for those who want to embrace
nature in the most natural state.
Sink into your own private

to take a dip in the ocean on a

fancy mingling, head to the main

activities on offer. I conquered my
fear of heights on an exhilarating
paraglide over the craggy cliffs
and blue waters of Zighy Bay.
